The headlines from Thursday night’s game will be about Tim Tebow. They also should be about the lack of progress by the Jets offense in year three of the Mark Sanchez era.

The Jets defense is the same as it ever was, a Super Bowl caliber group. It played a sensational game on Thursday night, and any moderately competent offense and quarterback would have easily put the Broncos away before Tebowmania took hold.

Consider: The Broncos started five possessions in Jets territory. They got three points out of those five chances.

In the 10 drives leading into Denver’s game-winning march, the Broncos had two first downs. Denver went three and out eight times in that span, including four straight times. It was as dominant a defensive performance as you’ll see.

At this point, all the Jets ask Mark Sanchez to do is not make the big mistake. He still made it, delivering seven points to the Broncos on a game-changing third quarter pick six.

Throws like that make the Jets run on third down and punt the ball away instead of playing to win. Throws like that make Rex Ryan play it conservative even when the Jets face a terrible secondary like the Patriots. The Jets don’t trust their quarterback.

Sanchez is leading the same streaky offense with non-stop slants that puttered around .500 into December in 2009.

You can only hide your quarterback for so long, and Sanchez’s stagnation is plain for everyone to see.

I certainly can't defend Sanchez at this point because honestly, I don't think he'll ever be anything more than an average QB in this league, but I do think that some blame needs to be thrown Schotty's way here.

I'd like to see what Sanchez can do with an offensive coordinator that isn't retarded.

Sanchez really didn't have a terrible game. In fact I think at one point he was like, 18/22 or something. Offensive line had a lot of trouble protecting him in the 2nd half, so they deserve part of the blame. But late in the game, in the clutch, he folded like a house of cards.

But nevertheless, it's not really a defense of Sanchez. He's really not that good and I know a lot of Jets fans are already losing their patience with him. He probably gets 1 more year and if it doesn't happen the experiment is over.

And not more than 2 years ago everyone was praising Schotty's playcalling. Part of the blame is on him also, but you gotta blame Sanchez for all the times he under-threw receivers on short passes and overthrew guys on deep passes. Those are mistakes that should be corrected by now. Maybe the blame is on him, or maybe the blame is on the coaches who should have corrected those errors by now.

His completion percentage is currently at 57% which isnt that good at all. He is committing way too many critical turnovers which hurts not only the offense, but the defense as well. He may be able to improve and reach his potential, but he just doesnt have that intangible which you see at times in QB's like Ryan, Flacco, and Tebow. lol

But he had a great winning percentage the last two years. He's a "winner".

A third year QB is being asked to carry a team that can't run the ball, receivers that can't get open down-field, and the right side of the o-line can't protect him at all. He's obviously not going to be successful.

*cough*Stafford*cough*

Although we do have receivers that can get open. But we run the ball worse and our oline is worse.

Sanchez ranked 18th in DYAR (Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement) last year and is 19th this season so far. In his rookie season, he was way down the line, so he's floated to his talent level. This was on teams that went deep in the playoffs, so we'll agree to disagree about his opportunity and the teams, to be a success.

Rex Ryan: Sanchez will be QB “as long as I am here”

Rex Ryan is going to ride or die with Mark Sanchez.

“Shoot, I’m extremely confident,” Ryan said about his young quarterback Friday. “I’ll go out there and play tomorrow. He’s going to be our quarterback for as long as I am here, which I hope is a long, long time. We know we got the right guy.

“We just need to get better. We all have to get better.”

It’s not fair to pile everything on Sanchez, but a couple things are clear about this Jets offense.

In Sanchez’s third year, the coaching staff still doesn’t trust their quarterback. The offense has not improved since 2009.

It’s still run as if a rookie quarterback is running the show.

I did in the off-season before our running game and half of our o-line went to shit, and he had to try and get on the same page with Plax and Mason (before he was cut anyway).

At this point, teams focus on stopping the pass more than they do stopping the run against us. We were supposed to be balanced on offense but we keep going from one extreme to the other.

They've come pretty close and its only his third year. Give him solid protection up front and a decent run game to balance it out and he can improve.

They'll never win a title with him as QB..
People still don't understand that he's not the person to blame for the reasons we don't have a ring.

Rex Ryan's heralded defense has failed us in both AFC Championship games, not Mark Sanchez.

He's in his third year and still making costly mistakes, had he not thrown a pick 6 last night, the Jets probably would have won the game. It's games like that, that kill the team. Can't always rely on your defense to do everything, I just think if they have to put the game in his hands, they are in trouble. He's nothing more than a game manager and even that he struggles with at times. I know they've been close, but they had a dominant defense then, it's not the same defense now. I have no reason to hate Sanchez, I just haven't seen it yet. They could score 7 points on offense and still win the game. He needs to step up his game, as does everyone. I don't think there's any denying that.

Had Rex Ryan not called an all out blitz up the middle on the play where Tebow scored the TD to seal the game and instead actually had people outside to prevent the scramble, we would have won the game. Had Rex Ryan not had 5 DBs on the field on the final drive trying to stop a QB who can't throw from throwing, we would have won the game. Had Joe McKnight not fumbled on the kick return, we would have won the game.

See what I did there?

I don't see how you can stick up for someone with these career numbers

43 TD's -- 43 INT's

55.2 COMP %

72.9 QB rating

But it's never his fault, the blame can't be placed on him. I'm not saying it's ALL his fault, because you do need the help to be successful, but he's just an average QB at best and I stand by that.
