Bills' Fitzpatrick to sign six-year extension worth up to $60 million

Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has agreed to a multiyear extension Friday, according to a league source.

Fitzpatrick's extension will be for an additional six years, and is worth just under a maximum of $60 million, with $24 million guaranteed, according to the source.

The sides are still putting minor issues with certain language in the contract to bed, but the financial details are in place and the contract is set to be signed today.

Fitzpatrick would have been a free agent this offseason -- likely the top available quarterback -- but the former journeyman has been a great fit in Chan Gailey's offense to the point that the Bills did not draft a quarterback in the spring and have spent much of this season trying to get Fitzpatrick extended.

Fitzpatrick, 28, was informed of the development immediately after practice Friday.

Fitzpatrick is completing the final year of a three-year contract, and has a 13-15 record with the Bills. Fitzpatrick broke into the league as the St. Louis Rams' seventh-round draft pick in 2005.

I'm just gonna say that sometime during that 6 years, this deal will be bad for them lol.

I do think they are putting a ton of stock in him, pretty risky if you ask me. He's having a good year this year so far but I don't know, that's a lot of money and six years is a lot, guess we'll see how it works out going forward. I never expected this out of Fitz.

Yeah, I mean sometimes people just flourish during a season then next...dud. But who knows. I'm liking what Fitz has done this year.

Here we let him go and now look at him.. Figures.. Bills definitely think he's their long-term solution so we'll see.

This is pretty much the market for good QBs, although it's probably a bit much.

he was pretty solid last year too. Although this is definitely a risky move. 6 years is way too much.\

But, it's only $24M guaranteed. And they've seen what happens to teams without an "ok" QB.

This is kind of jumping the gun a little imo.

Last four games he has 5 TD's and 5 INT's.

I'd have to agree, I'm not sure how smart this was, guess time will tell. They had to do something since he would have been a free agent but 6 years? I dunno, I dunno.

Very risky deal I don't see him as a franchise quarterback like that at all...and I doubt he'll put up the stats for the next 6 years...

This is a bad deal lol

but its only $24M guaranteed. They could cut him after 3 years and it wouldn't be that tough a choice.
