http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/429812/tania-ganguli/2011-10-25/jaguars-linebacker-daryl-smith-made-big-plays-big-stageJaguars players get defensive when they talk about Daryl Smith.
They don't understand why everyone doesn't see what they see and what they see in Smith is one of the best linebackers in the NFL.
Smith played a great game Monday. He led the team with six tackles (although I suspect that will increase once the coaches watch the tape), had one sack, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.
The word I used was unbelievable. Fellow Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny used the same one.
"Unbelievable," Posluszny said. "Unbelievable. He’s done that for years. Everyone here says he’s a Pro Bowl player. Why he hasn’t been voted there who knows? But he’s a Pro Bowl player and he showed it tonight."
The only player who's been with the Jaguars longer than Smith is cornerback Rashean Mathis, who refused to agree that Monday night's game was even one of Smith's best. He said, as well as Smith played, in eight years he's seen 10 more games like that.
"Being that it’s on a national stage, we’re the Jaguars, it’s still going to get talked down," Mathis said. "This is not even close to as well as I’ve seen him play. I've seen flawless games from him. This could have been one of those games as well."
