The Detroit Lions made a move to solidify their running back situation, just before the trade deadline, sending Jerome Harrison and a 2013 seventh-round pick to Philadelphia for Ronnie Brown.

Brown signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Eagles this past offseason but had carved out very little playing time behind LeSean McCoy. Through six games, Brown had 13 rushes for just 38 yards and turned in one of the most bizarre plays of the season.

Harrison’s numbers this season are comparable to Brown’s — 14 carries for 41 yards — but he had been inactive for two games. The Lions added him this preseason after losing Mikel Leshoure to a torn Achilles.

Now, the Lions are dealing with health issues for starting RB Jahvid Best, who is questionable for Week 7 after suffering his second concussion of the year. The loss of Leshoure also cost the Lions the power back they wanted to complement Best — Harrison, Maurice Morris and others failed to provide the pop there.

Brown could be the missing piece, especially if Best can stay healthy. Brown scored 36 touchdowns over six seasons with the Dolphins and might be able to take some red-zone carries from Best.

The Eagles, meanwhile, acquired Harrison via trade for the second time in two seasons. They also traded for the 28-year-old running back last October, sending Mike Bell to Cleveland in exchange for Harrison.

Harrison figures to serve as McCoy’s primary backup.

Best’s concussion issues — he’s had three in two years with Detroit and suffered one during his final year at Cal, as well — led to the Lions being brought up in trade-deadline rumors surrounding Cleveland’s Peyton Hillis and Dallas’ Tashard Choice.

Instead, it’s Brown, who will try to add some much-needed pop to the Detroit backfield.
Essentially Brown for a 7th round pick.
Worth a shot, hopefully he does indeed provide us that pop.
I just don't get why we didn't just try Harrison more.

u late bro we posted this in the nfl season thread lol. But I like the deal. Hopefully he shows some promise I don't expect his old form but he's better than anything we got other than best.

I'm sure it was lol. I heard about it when it happened, I was out at the time though, but I didn't see a thread so I posted it now.

I like this deal for them, I think Ronnie Brown should have been used more with Philly, but McCoy is real good. The only thing is if Best recovers from his concussion quickly, I'm guessing Brown may yet again, not be used much.

Nah Ronnie will be used if best recovers quickly. Mikel and Best were going to split carries during the season but then Mikel got hurt in training camp, so best has been getting most of the carries this season. So it will probably be close to a fifty split possibly.

Why the hell did Philly sign Brown anyway?

I would have just kept Harrison and gone after someone who could be basically used just for the pass game at RB. Aside from the one huge run against Chicago, Best isn't having a good year on the ground, mainly just used as a weapon for Stafford as a receiver.

Filed to ESPN: Ronnie Brown-to-Detroit trade voided because RB Jerome Harrison had health issues. Brown still an Eagle, Harrison a Lion.

Wow, so much for that trade. Guess Detroit will just have to go with the flow now.

It's kind of dumb, I don't see why the NFL can't make some sort of exception to rework the deal or put it on ice till Harrison is healthy enough to pass a physical.

Why would they make an exception? He failed his physical.

Cause had it not been at the deadline, there would of been time to rework the deal.
Now it's just dead, after both players arrived in their respective cities.

It is a pretty insignificant trade, but imagine if Ronnie Brown was like, Chris Johnson.
Lions go from having a top RB to their current situation just like that. Just cause of a failed physical.
That's why I think there should be some sort of exception to rework the deal or something.

Am I the only one who sees it this way?

Yes.

Who cares what the deal was? They tried to trade an unhealthy player and he failed his physical, making the deal void.

It's not like either of these players would get claimed on waivers anyway. Just make the deal again in a few weeks.

Well, I guess that's what happens when you wait till the last second to make something happen.

Don't think we could predict the future of Best getting another concussion..

Reminds me of this past NBA deadline when the Hornets acquired Brandon Rush.

It sucks as a Lions fan, but look at it from the other side. You just acquired a guy and turns out he failed his physical... Obviously it isn't fair to give up a healthy player for a not healthy one in a trade.
