NBA owners will lose $1 million on average for every game canceled because of the lockout, and players will lose an estimated $350 million a month. The pain, though, may be more acute for thousands of people with no seat at the bargaining table.

1M per game is a shit ton of money. I think the Hornets have lost eight games through the first two weeks of the season.

The other thing I don't hear alot about is the people losing their jobs. The people that work in parking garages, the people that work inside and outside of the arena. Is the NBA going to recoup the money they lose out on? Hell no.

I would guess the owners would lose even more than that. I mean no games, there will be a lot of revenues lost.

It can be difficult to get an accurate read on the state of collective bargaining between the NBA and players union, particularly if one pays attention to the post-meeting rhetoric coming from both sides.

After seven hours of negotiation on Monday, David Stern said the sides remain "very, very apart on all issues" as he cancelled two weeks of regular season games.

Yet during an interview on WFAN on Wednesday, Billy Hunter indicated that an agreement between the owners and players had been nearing completion.

"We thought we could live with the deal we were close to making," Hunter said.

NEW YORK -- Commissioner David Stern said his "gut" tells him there will be no NBA basketball on Christmas without a labor agreement by Tuesday.

That day, when owners and players are scheduled to meet with a federal mediator, is a "really big deal," he added.

Owners will then open two days of board meetings Wednesday, and without an agreement to bring them, Stern believes further cancellations are coming.

"Right now, Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday, just before my owners come into town, having brought in the labor relations committee and Billy (Hunter) having brought in his executive committee, it's time to make the deal," Stern said Thursday. "If we don't make it on Tuesday, my gut -- this is not in my official capacity of canceling games -- but my gut is that we won't be playing on Christmas Day."

Marc Stein writes that the NBA league office may be planning to play a full slate of games even if the start of the season is delayed one month.

"Be advised that strong rumblings continue to be conveyed to ESPN.com about the league preparing a secret schedule that starts Dec. 1 and still manages to pump out 82 games," Stein wrote.

That's if they ever get a fucking deal done <_<

The other news is that the NBAPA say they are not backing down from their current stance. Hunter had a meeting with players saying how they need to be unified, which makes one think maybe some players are willing to just end this now...

Yeah I don't think you need to have a day between every game, and sometimes it's much worse than that.

When the Hornets played the Lakers our first game was Sunday afternoon and our next game wasn't till Wednesday night. Shits dumb.
