Al Davis, the iconic owner of the Oakland Raiders, passed away Saturday, a senior-ranking team official confirmed. He was 82.

During Davis' historic 48-year run with the Raiders, he won three Super Bowls and enjoyed 28 winning seasons, including a stretch of 16 from 1965 through the 1980.

The Raiders arrived in Houston on Friday night in preparation for Sunday's game with the Texans.

This clearly is a huge blow to the members of the franchise. In the conversation I had with a team official, he was very somber and described it as a tough time.

NFL meetings will take place in Houston on Monday and Tuesday and Davis' passing certainly will encompass the gathering of teams owners and league executives.

Wow... I mean he was getting up there, but wow... R.I.P. To one of the greatest owners in NFL History, such an instrumental part of the NFL where it is today.

Despite his shortcomings the past few seasons, it's definitely sad to see him day. He was a great coach in his day and he was such an influential figure in NFL history.

RIP Al Davis.

As if they aren't already?

They have a lot of talent on that team. He was still too much in love with speed but there is no doubt the Raiders have accumulated a ton of talent these past few season.

I agree, but that's what happens when you have top 10 picks for 8 years. Imagine where they could be if they didn't have Al Davis fucking them every time they start to shine.

LOL I feel bad for DHB. gonna be falling off the depth chart

Denarius Moore, Rolando McClain, Darren McFadden, hired Hue Jackson, Jacoby Ford, Steven Wisnewski, Lamarr Houston, etc... Yeah he hasn't been great the last decade, but let's not forget he has put some serious talent around this Raider team.

again, not hard when you constantly have top picks. He's drafted the biggest bust in history, drafted terrell pryor, drove away Woodson and now Aso, fires every coach after 2 years this last decade, insists on his players playing.

He's been limiting their abilities for years. This is nothing but good for the Raiders as a team

No I'm not ignoring that, let's just not ignore he's a huge reason the Raiders have rebounded a bit after being one of the worst teams in the league.

i'd give more credit to hue jackson then al davis for the Raiders rebounding. overpaying players and wasting draft picks doesn't do much to help a team rebound.

try talking to a Raiders fan. Al Davis has nothing to do with the recent success. it's like throwing a dart blindly at a dartboard, eventually you get it a bullseye
