Talks Between Players, Owners "Moving, and a Deal is There for the Taking"

Ken Berger reported late Thursday night that his sources tell him that talks between the players and owners are "moving," and that a deal is "there for the taking."
Echoing an earlier report from Chris Sheridan, Berger's sources report that the two sides are getting closer and closer on the money split, and that both sides are willing to negotiate on both 'total money' as well as the system (hard cap vs. soft cap or hybrid). And as Berger points out, we agree that the real negotiating wasn't going to start until preseason games were missed, and it certainly seems like the fuss about a hard cap from the owners is all a leverage play.

Sounds like we're actually getting close to a deal. They're talking about another high-profile meeting early next week, and if we can get some movement, then we could have a deal before regular season games are missed. The owners now have said they're willing to get that money percentage to 51% I believe it was, where two weeks ago they wanted it down to 43%. That's a lot of progress. Sounds like there is a good possibility we get a deal done, but still a ways away.

Thoughts?

I think it's like the NFL where the two sides have realized the season is in jepoardy if they don't get the deal done soon and they are more willing to compromise than before.

However, I doubt the deal gets done.

A deal won't get done, I'd be shocked if this lockout is over 2 years from now.

Obviously a little sarcasm, but seriously. Owners want a hard cap and say a deal won't get done without one, players want a soft cap and say a deal won't get done without one.

Who budges first? It won't be the owners, a hard cap is really needed, and they know that.

The players really have no foot to stand on, none. It's amazing how similar this is to the NHL's recent labor issue. Even though every NBA basketball player and owner is saying otherwise it's odd how similar the two events are in nature. I expect the NBA to follow the NHL's lead, the owners will win, the players will complain, and in 4 years the entire league will be better off.

I do know this, it can't get worse.

Players will budge, no doubt about that, but probably not for a bit.

Im pretty sure he was talkin bout a deal, we all know that more than likely games will be missed, maybe even the season.

You'd be surprised how many people think the season will get started on time lol

Well they're blind as fuck if they think it will start on time. There is still a chance, but more than likely we will not start the season on time unless one side breaks down and goes with the other side and that will more than likely not happen.

I doubt the lockout will end at least for another few months realistically I don't think the season will start until February or March

They'll probably just not have a season if the lockout goes that long.
