say a pitcher in Oakland has a 2.3 ERA. he has a huge advantage of all that foul ground and just an overall huge park
say a pitcher has an ERA of 2.3 in Colorado. way more impressive considering that ballpark

FIP is things a pitcher can control. Walks, Strikeouts, Homers. once a hitter puts the ball in play, it's up to the defense

Justin's FIP is 2.73
Weav's FIP is 2.80



tons of other stats suggest Justin over Weav.
i didnt even go into xFIP or Ground ball percentage etc

but even looking beyond SABR. Verlander has WAY more K's
has 1 more walk in about 20 more innings
a 2.28 ERA isnt something to dismiss either if youre going to look at ERA

In regards to the actual topic:

AL = Mark Trumbo
NL = Craig Kimbrel

Maybe Hellickson if he gets his ERA under 3, but Trumbo's counting stats are too high for voters to look past especially in a weak year for rookie hitters.

You're too hung up on OBP. Yes, it's a good evaluator but it isn't the only thing. Trumbo is putting up good offensive numbers, as Yanks said, in a weak year for rookie hitters, in the Angels' mediocre offense. That counts for something.

And no, Pineda isn't pitching better than Hellickson. They're pretty even actually.

Hellickson has a very nice ERA, and Pineda's is good as well, but Pineda has a better FIP and xFIP by a pretty good margin
Pineda has a better K/9
Pineda has almost 50 more K's in 2 less innings
Pineda has a better WHIP, better BA against, less walks

i give him the nod

sure, Hellickson pitches in the ALE, but Pineda has pitched against the ALE 7 times and Hellickson 9 times

Pineda is worth a full win more as well
