Derrick Rose spoke to HoopsHype at an event in Madrid. Among a number of subjects, Rose talked about working on a post game, which is a pretty exciting idea, even if every superstar says they’re working on a post-game in the summer and few actually implement one. But more interesting was this little tidbit.

Time has passed since you won the MVP trophy award. What are your feelings about it now?

DR: It was great but I’m not satisfied. I won’t be satisfied until I win a championship. I’m not satisfied at all. There’s not a doubt in my mind that I’m not going to win a championship. I’m going win multiple championships. It’s not a doubt in my mind.

via HoopsHype.com NBA Blogs – Raul Barrigon » Derrick Rose: “I’m going to win multiple championships”.

So, just to be clear on this. A young MVP player who has never won a championship has said that he’s going to win multiple titles before collecting a single one. Now, granted, Rose didn’t say “Not two, not three, four, not five, not six, not seven,” etc. like one Mr. James did, but isn’t the meaning the same? It’s counting your chickens before they’ve hatched. Putting the cart before the horse. Getting ahead of yourself. Other cliches.

Guess how much criticism Rose will get for this? None. Because he did it quietly in an interview with a website in Spain while James did it on a stage with smoke and pyro after a nationally televised special to announce he was betraying his hometown. But for a player so often described as humble, Rose has said he’s going to win the MVP, then going to win multiple titles in back to back years. Of course, another difference, Rose backed up his talk with the MVP last year.

This isn’t meant to say we should criticize Rose. It’s to say that the criticism for James was, as always, blown out of all reasonable proportion. Every great player in the NBA thinks they’re going to win multiple titles. It takes years for players to learn how valuable just getting one is.

Either that, or they play for the Lakers.
And the title thread is the name of the article. I wasn't the one that said Sound Familiar? lol

To win multiple, you have to win your first one Rose. I liked the way MJ played the game, he didn't talk about winning Titles, he actually went out and did it. If Rose really wants to take the Bulls to "multiple titles", he's going to need to learn how to make his teammates play hard just like he does. He needs to pass the ball better as well. Love the confidence, but seriously Derrick? Don't get so cocky.

There's no reason for Rose to get any criticism for this.

There was no reason for Lebron to get any criticism for what he said last year either.

This should be the mindset of every player in the league. I'd want every player on my team to think the same thing.

That's a pretty bold thing to say.

I'd rather him say this than him say I'm not going to win any titles.

He said he was gonna win MVP, he won MVP.

He says they're gonna win multiple titles, hey, Jordan said the same thing about this team, so we'll just have to wait and see. I don't get what's so wrong about having confidence in yourself. As a fan of his team, I like it. I guess as a fan of another team, you're looking at it from a different angle, but as a Bulls fan, I love it.

At least he's backed up everything he's said so far, unlike some guy that promised 8 titles at a concert after teaming up with one of the world's best. Rose is promising titles as the only star on the team.

This better not be his way of saying i'm joining the Heat. <_<

Rose is usually the guy who doesn't say anything...this is surprising.

LeBron was messing around with the 8 thing, why does everyone fail to realize this?

Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7, not 8.

I don't get why people are so hard on LeBron... He has done exactly what he said he is going to do.
