ESPNThe Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have reached agreement with starting pitcher Jered Weaver on a five-year, $85 million contract, a baseball source confirmed Sunday night. The deal includes a full-no trade clause, the source said.
The Angels are expected to announce the agreement at a news conference Tuesday in Anaheim.
Weaver, 28, is 14-6 with an American League-leading 2.10 ERA this season. He was the AL's starting pitcher in the All-Star Game.
The Angels selected Weaver out of Long Beach State with the 12th overall pick in the 2004 June draft. Weaver is 78-45 with a 3.30 ERA in six seasons with the club.
Weaver, who was making $7.37 million this year after losing his arbitration case in February, would have been eligible for free agency after the 2012 season, so the extension covers his final year of salary arbitration and four years of free agency.
SI.com was first to report the agreement.
Good for Weaver to cash in on his great season. Angels just locked up a great pitcher.
