like lets say a team is on the road and they have a stud reliever
game goes into the 11th, but instead of pitching their closer in the bottom of the 11th, they use their shitty mop up guy and he blows it

you're seriously going to let your best reliever sit on the bench because of a silly stat??

I'm not sure how good Pomeranz will be in Coors. White is the kind of pitcher they want in Coors but he is more of a #2.

Kimbrel is how many years younger than Valverde, I'd take it in a heartbeart.
But right now, Valverde is the best closer in baseball. 37/37 speaks for itself.

Saves don't show you who the best closer is.. Today, Valverde walked a guy, hit a guy, gave up a sac bunt on a 3-1 count, gave up a fly ball to center field, and got the save.

Saves don't show you who the best closer is.. Today, Valverde walked a guy, hit a guy, gave up a sac bunt on a 3-1 count, gave up a fly ball to center field, and got the save.

He didn't allow any runs though, he got through it with some nice help from Austin Jackson. He was off today, no question about it but he still managed to do enough, which is all we can ask. It was a total team effort.

Just because he has more saves doesn't make him better.

Mariano has a lower ERA and a much lower WHIP.

Better pitcher is a different story than better closer.

Valverde is not a good pitcher in non-save situations.
I never once said Valverde was a better pitcher.
But when in a save situation, no one is better than Valverde right now.
And a closers job is to get the save. No one gets them better than Jose.
