Associated Press - Rex Ryan thinks Mark Sanchez is one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks, according to an Associated Press report.

The Jets coach praised his young quarterback, saying Thursday that Sanchez belongs in the conversation because “this guy has won four playoff games in two years, all on the road.” Ryan adds that Sanchez is “a winner,” but acknowledges that he is still developing as a third-year quarterback.

While he calls Sanchez “elite,” he would not put him in the same class as New England’s Tom Brady(notes) or Indianapolis’ Peyton Manning(notes). “We’re a ways from there, no doubt,” Ryan says

My question.

If Rex considers him elite, why would he consider about benching him last year? You don't bench elite QB's.

That was in the past, I guess he really likes the improvements he made in the off-season.

I'm expecting him to have a year similar to what Flacco did it last year, probably going to throw a few more picks though.

Im kind of getting tired of these stupid proclamations that Rex Ryan is starting to make. First that the Jets are going to win the Super Bowl, now Sanchez is elite. If a Top 20 QB is elite then I guess yes he is.
