Maybin was cut Monday after two awful seasons that made him one of the biggest draft busts in recent memory. Maybin, the 11th overall pick in the 2009 draft, played in 26 games for the Bills and didn't record a single sack.

Maybin is somewhat similar to former Jets bust Vernon Gholston, whom the Jets released in February. The Jets still are looking for ways to upgrade their pass rush, and they decided to take a flier on Maybin, a former Penn State standout.

At 6-foot-4, 228 pounds, Maybin is undersized for the Jets' 3-4 scheme, but the coaching staff is eager to see if he can be an edge rusher in the nickel package. He likely will sign a non-guaranteed contract.
ESPN

I guess it's not a bad idea. Low-risk, high-reward type thing.

There is no risk involved in this.. If he doesn't show anything he'll be buried on the depth chart of cut.

Bears showed interest... I have no idea why, the guy is under 230lbs.

He'd get dominated trying to play DE in a 4-3.

OK, he was on the roster from August 17 and was just released. How again did he "improve alot"?
He made the initial 53-man roster. If he played the same way that he did in Buffalo he would have never made it past the initial cuts.

In before BC turns around and says how this is a great signing with Low Risk, High Reward.. Which we've already been through this and know whats going to happen. Maybins time in NY won't be longer than anything but a foot rub from fat ass Rex Ryan, then boom. Back to flipping burgers at your local Burger King.

Whether you want to believe it or not, he's talented and has upside. Whether he ever actually reaches the potential that he has is another story, but to say it isn't there is ignorant.

Rex signed him for this game for one reason only, so he can run circles around Bryant McKinnie's fat ass.

Oh yeah  .

Maybin CLEARLY did that last year when he faced McKinnie.

He doesn't have potential, or an upside.. one of the biggest busts in NFL history.

If he wasn't a Jet though.. you'd be laughing at whatever team signed him.

Maybin hardly played, if he played at all, in the Minnesota game. McKinnie also wasn't 380 pounds last season.

No, I wouldn't, because a lot of teams still pick up who didn't happen to pan out on one team because they have talent.

That, right there, is why we signed him.

I don't even know if he's going to be active for the game, but we signed him for a reason and they feel that his speed plays well against McKinnie.
