Umm.. if the Suns were willing to trade Amare for Hickson, the Cavs would have taken it and ran off.. The Cavs offered the deal and wanted an answer before the deadline so if they knew the Suns didn't want it they could go and do another deal, and that's what happened. A team that hasn't won a championship in their team's history, would not hold back on trading for a star talent like Amare to keep JJ Hickson.. It's common sense.

The Cleveland Cavaliers pursued Stoudemire hard in recent days at the behest of LeBron James, but pulled out of talks with the Suns Wednesday afternoon and swung a three-team deal instead for Washington's Antawn Jamison.

per ESPN

From what i can remember, the suns also asked for AV in the proposed deal. But were unwilling to let him and JJ go (This is coming from a suns fan, when steve kerr was the GM.)....so they swung the deal for Jamison instead to keep the team with a deeper core, and of course to have depth.

Why would I care what ESPN says? ESPN rips on Cleveland at any chance and pretty much does anything they can to make the city look even worse.

Steve Kerr directly said on Bill Simmons podcast that he was not going to trade Amare for Hickson.. And this wasn't while he was still the Suns GM and just trying to make it sound like they never wanted to deal him..

He says that now, whether it happened or not we don't know. I've heard similar things to what this guy is saying, so I believe him. The Cavs thought they had a better team pulling the Jamison trade than they did trading away key players in the Amare deal.

both amare and lebron would have bolted either way. theyre better off now than they would have been doing that trade.

Nah, if you told me back at the deadline that the Cavs would have won the championship but both guys would have left, I would have been all in. I'm not looking for a dynasty here, I'm looking for one god damn championship win lol.

Cavs have never won a championship and we lost LeBron anyway. I would take a championship at the expense of not having Omri Casspi right now.
