Calgary just continues to be the retirement home landing spot.

Yeah, they signed guys like Jokinen and Tanguay last summer. Their roster is aging, and have few prospects.

What was wrong with the Tanguay signing? He was 30 when they signed him so it's not like he was old and he had a really good season. He was pretty cheap as well. He was a really good signing.

The Jokinen signing made no sense, to me, though and they've made some suspect moves when it comes trades and all that.

And now getting Smyth will take up most of their free cap space for this offseason while not really improving their team a great deal.

I don't get it. Whats the incentive for Edmonton to do this? Oilers are rebuilding, why do they take an old, overpaid player, and get nothing? I see this as the Oilers taking that contract from the Kings.

I dont really watch the kings, so I may be wrong. Has Smyth improved from when he was in Colorado?

Around the same. I guess it makes some sense because he can mentor some of the younger guys and, his contract ends next year, so it's not too bad for the Oilers.

It would have made less sense for Calgary because his contract would have put them close to the cap and not given them that much to improve.
