Report: Suns To Buy Out Carter

The Phoenix Suns are working on a buyout with Vince Carter, per the Arizona Republic's Paul Coro.

Carter averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this past season.

Carter signed a four-year, $61.8 million deal in 2007. He's entering the final year of the contract, which will pay him $18.9 million next season.

I wouldn't take him as anymore than a backup SG.

That's if we don't have Ronnie Brewer next season.

He dominated games back when dinosaurs existed; the Bulls are better off with Brewer at this point

Outside of the Big 3, South Beach has been the place where once memorable careers go to die. :/
i.e. Jerry Stackhouse, Jamaal Magloire, Mike Bibby, Juwan Howard

Carter is obviously in the twilight of his playing days, but I don't want to see him end on that note either.

Not going to be a real game changer, but he will help a team out.

I agree with Rip, Carter isn't done yet. He won't be the face of a franchise obviously, but he'll still put up decent numbers.

Yeah the dude is still solid but I don't think he's going anywhere else in his career and it may be time to become a 6th man or some shit....

I understand people think Miami is a possible destination for Carter, but don't they have other needs at the moment-- namely a quality point guard or post player? I don't think Vince is signing for the minimum, and I would imagine their MLE (if it even makes a return next season) would be invested in more pressing pieces instead of a streaky, inefficient scorer. You know, the type of players contenders generally try to avoid. The Heat also have to make wholesale changes to their roster off the bench, so I doubt offering anything more than the minimum to Vince is a risk they would be willing to take.

Which leads me to this: what makes any of you think Vince Carter won't share the same fate as fellow aging stars Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson when they hit FA? Carter, after all, played in an ideal locale with a PG and system that most resembled his peak years in NJ with the Suns and still couldn't get it together. Right now, his stock is as low as it possibly could be-- contenders don't want his skill set, and bad teams would rather have players develop. If I were a betting man, I would assume Vince follows suit as his other aging counterparts and plays his last years on fringe teams that don't matter. Can anyone say the Los Angeles Clippers?
