The Knicks have had preliminary discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a trade for point guard Jonny Flynn.

No formal deal is in place, but the Knicks are debating whether Flynn, the sixth overall pick of the 2009 draft would be a viable option to back up Chauncey Billups for at least one season. Flynn has become expendable now that the Wolves have signed Spanish guard Ricky Rubio, who was taken one pick ahead of Flynn.

Toney Douglas would likely be the player traded for Flynn. However, Douglas is coming off major shoulder surgery, which in theory would make him tough to deal. But Flynn is a similar medical risk. The 6-foot guard out of Syracuse had hip surgery last July and was limited to 53 games in his second year, not including a stint in the D-League.

Havent seen much if Flynn in the league, but from what I remember of him at 'cuse he'd be the right PG for our sysytem, since he can penetrate, can score but alsolooksto make the play for another teammate..

Like Pugz said Billups would mentor him well too, since their games are similar.

He does?

Main problem with Flynn is that he doesn't penetrate like he should and all he really has done is throw up jumpers.

Flynn is an uptempo guard that plays little to no defense-- the rumor, if accurate, suggests a commitment to D'Antoni's run and gun philosophy. What that potential decision means for the Knicks future in terms of play style, I think, is the real headline.

Flynn isnt exactly a true PG, but he has more potential than Douglas to be a pure point

I'd do the trade. I like it for both sides
Minnesota is going to need some sock from the bench. Douglas with Derrick Williams or Wes Johnson on the bench has potential

I loved Flynn on Syracuse, but for some reason I don't think this is a good deal.

He was a pretty darn good player at 'Cuse, but he really hasn't transitioned so well into the NBA. This deal could make some sense if the Knicks feel Chauncey can help him develop for the future. The Knicks are picking up a project kind of player here.

Jonny Flynn will never reach his potential because he doesn't even try on defense. It's pathetic.

I feel like Flynn is a tad bit better all-around, but I still feel like this trade is basically a swap of 2 extremely similar players...

Maybe playing in the Mecca/ Hometown alongside 2 of the better players at their positions would change his determination..
