Ray Allen Open to Coming Off Bench Behind Jeff Green

Ray Allen has been open to the idea of coming off the bench behind Jeff Green.

GM Danny Ainge has been the one floating this notion that the Celtics would be better off starting Green over Ray Allen or Paul Pierce. The idea is to save the veteran's legs while also making the Celtics more athletic in their starting five. But when push comes to shove, we don't see coach Doc Rivers pulling the trigger on this move. Allen and Pierce have earned too much respect to not be in the starting five.

Benching one of your "big three" has got to be hard. That being said, with age starting to set in on both Pierce and Allen, I don't think anyone could blame them for making the move. Green will be reading to step in and play a bigger role next year, so I expect them to at least seriously look into making the starting switch.

if Ray can play defense as a SG, Paul can too

So then why does it matter if it's Pierce or Allen or Green for that matter, if, in your opinion, none of them can guard the opposing team's 2?

I just don't see what Green adds over either Pierce or Ray other than energy because of his youth

I'm not saying starting Green is the best idea out there either, but if none of them can defend two guards, then we can just throw that knock on Pierce out the window.

You're right though, if Allen didn't start, that would be one terrible shooting starting lineup.

Yes. And Jeff Green is shaky and Rondo is god awful.

I'm also not expecting any 3's from KG and Jermaine O'Neal or whoever they have at center next season.

Pau and Bynum cant shoot

Pierce=Bryant at shooting 3s
Green= Artest at 3s

Blake= average 3pt shooter

And the C's have Ray off the bench as a 6th man? Its fine

I just think they're better off with Ray at the 2.

He had his most efficient shooting season ever last season and I just don't think Jeff would fit in the lineup unless Pierce is the one sitting
