I've been thinking about this for a while now, but there are a lot of "small guards" in the NBA that weren't taken in the top ten picks of the draft, or even the lottery, that are now big parts of their teams. Those guys, and maybe some that I have missed are, Eric Bledsoe, Patrick Mills, Roddy Beaubois, Darren Collison, Jeff Teague, Ty Lawson, Goran Dragic, Aaron Brooks, and many more. Even this year you have guys like Nolan Smith, Jacob Pullen, and Shelvin Mack.
It just seems like every draft has 1 or 2 "small guards" that eventually have a pretty large impact for their team, in some capacity. Why do you think that is? Because they are considered below average in size?
