Guard Rodney Stuckey(notes) has been with the Detroit Pistons for four years and he becomes a restricted free agent this summer. His contractual status could be made murky by the fact that the NBA collective bargaining agreement ends this summer as well, but MLive reports that the expectation is that Stuckey will be offered a multi-year deal by the Pistons unless something unforeseen occurs with new ownership or the CBA.

This past season, Stuckey averaged 15.5 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game while the team finished 30-52, only seven games back from a playoff spot. The team selected Stuckey with the 15th pick of the draft's first round back in 2007.

If the 25-year-old Stuckey agrees to the qualifying offer that the team is required to extend to him this summer, he would make about $3.9 million next year and could become a free agent next summer, MLive reports, but "it is much more likely that the Pistons will retain him with a lucrative multi-year deal, whether he first signs an offer sheet elsewhere or re-signs directly with the Pistons."

its not stupid. but id rather have him locked up with a real pg playing the point and him coming off the bench as our combo guard. but we're still so overloaded with guards.

I think it's stupid because he's going to get a good payday, and will be overpaid for a backup combo guard that you speak of.

Unless we draft Brandon Knight or Kyrie Irving, Stuckey will be our starting PG next year.

There's no surprise that they want to keep Stucky. Kuester probably wont' be back next year, and even if he is he'll be on a leash. Stuckey is their best player, why would they let him walk?

hes a starting caliber point guard unless we have a good pass first point guard. then hes better off playing both spots off the bench. but he'll be overpaid for sure. lol

I just think every team is trying to build a championship, and Stuckey will never lead a team to a championship.

You never know.
If Stuckey plays the way he ended last year, he could be worth every dollar of the contract he is going to get. He actually looked like a PG and made his teammates better.

he would look better and play better if we had a solid rotation and a better team so hed have better options. until all that happens he wont look as good, anyways.

Truth.
I still fully believe he has all-star potential.

You guys have players who can put the ball in the basket though, I don't think you can attribute his lack of assists due to lack of scoring options

Not really. Everyone we have is inconsistent as fuck.
With how his teammates played, 5 assists sounds bout right.

BG, Vill, Rip, Tayshaun, and T-Mac are all decent offensive options, obviously there is no star, but they can all score.
