AP source: Rockets won't renew Adelman's contract

Posted Apr 18 2011 5:57PM
HOUSTON (AP) -- A person familiar with the decision says Rick Adelman is out as coach of the Houston Rockets.

The team will not renew Adelman's contract for next season says the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity Monday because the team has not made an official announcement.
KRIV-TV and the Houston Chronicle first reported the decision.
The 64-year-old Adelman went 193-135 in four seasons with the Rockets and led them to their only playoff series victory since 1997. His career record is 945-616 and ranks eighth in career victories.
Bad decision, he's a great coach.

That team may go the route of the Hornets and just get younger pretty much everywhere.

This just goes to show how stupid Leslie Alexander and Daryl Morey are. Daryl Morey is capable of getting steals in trades, but he sure doesn't seem able to convince his owner to keep a good coach, let alone get along with one. Why are we chasing Adelman out? This is ridiculous. What the fuck did they expect from him these last two years? Miracles? He damn near pulled off a couple miracles.

Fuck Leslie Alexander.

Why does him being 64(65 in June) change anything? Sure he's old, but he doesn't seem done yet.

That's what I'm thinking, he hasn't even hinted at retirement.

dont think he's done, but i said that because at age 65, you dont want to go to another rebuilding team. he deserves more

and he hinted at retirement in the past. this is from February 2011
“He talked about the ‘R’ word with his wife, Mary Kay, last summer. ‘We will talk about it this year, more seriously, and decide what do I really want to do in the future?’ said Adelman, who has been in the league since he was drafted by the San Diego Rockets in 1968. ‘I think you think about it when you get to this many years in the league. Let’s be frank, it’s been really disappointing the last two years with the injuries. Then when you think you have something going …’ Adelman’s voice trailed off as he thought about the Rockets’ inconsistency this season. He describes last season, when the Rockets went 42-40 and failed to make the playoffs, as a ‘real pleasure’ because of how his team competed. He likes his players and the organization, but … ‘You certainly want to win more games,’ he said. ‘I think at the end (of the season) with my contract running out, I’m going to look at it and see what I want to do.’

I heard recently that he says he has no plans on retiring though.

But that might change if he doesn't get any offers he likes.

This is the worst personnel move in Rockets history. No question about it.
