Good to see Beckett pitch well in back-to-back games. Hopefully, he can keep it up.

Beckett is one of the most overrated pitchers of this decade. Isn't even close to durable and has only performed like this ace that everyone heralds him as two or three times in his career.

I agree that he's not a bonafide "ace", and idk who's hyping him up as this great ace, but he's a great pitcher. Also don't know what durability has to do with his actual pitching talent.

I may have misread your post, but did you say he has only pitched like an ace in two or three games in his career, or has had two or three ace like seasons?

With the lack of success last year and the injury nobody has really talked about him, but before that, his name was being tossed around with the best pitchers in the league.

Part of being a great pitcher is the ability to be counted on to go deep in games and stay healthy, Beckett doesn't do that. He's pitched 200 or more innings in only 3 seasons.

I was going to say if you meant games lol

The hype has mainly been from his 2007 season though.

This offense is SO irritating to watch. So inconsistent it's sickening. They need to get their shit together.

I just don't think the fact that he's been injured is enough to discount him as a great pitcher. As evidenced by how well he does when he's not hurt. Again, I agree that he's not a prototypical ace or throw ace innings, but he's got the talent to be considered among the best pitchers. Just not cream of the crop.

AJ Burnett has the talent to be amongst the great pitchers as well, but he certainly isn't considered one and it's for all the same reasons Beckett shouldn't be

And many discount Beckett now for that reason. But back when he was healthy and was pitching great, it wasn't wrong to think so. Obviously, now, he isn't in that group but I'll still defend Beckett because he's on the Red Sox.

He never really was pitching great when he was healthy though...

He's done that 3 times and he's only had 2 terrible seasons (5+ ERA). Another thing people loved is how he stepped up in the postseason in '03 and '07.

If people thought highly of AJ then there's no reason they wouldn't think the same for Beckett.

But nobody really thinks/thought highly of him like they did with Beckett

IDK, there could be a number of reasons for that. AJ didn't have the postseason success. Also, AJ's a wildcard. When he's healthy, he throws a lot of innings and strikes guys out. But, with that, comes his walks, hit batters, wild pitches, etc.
