Andrew Bynum said before the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the San Antonio Spurs that he never has contracted chickenpox, news that should have the Lakers concerned after guard Steve Blake was diagnosed with the virus Tuesday afternoon.

Chickenpox can cause problems for pregnant women, newborns, teens and adults, and people who have immune system problems that make it hard for the body to fight infection.

It is caused by the varicella-zoster virus and spreads easily, even before the infected person has any symptoms. The Lakers are trying to hold on to second place in the Western Conference.

Steve Blake has chicken pox, a common but contagious illness typically reserved for children. The Lakers hope he’s the only one who gets it.

Andrew Bynum, Kobe Bryant, and Ron Artest have never had the contagious illness. It takes about two weeks for signs to show.

It is less common to contract the illness if a person has already had it or has received the vaccine in the past.

The Lakers can secure the No. 2 seed with a victory Wednesday at Sacramento and/or a Dallas Mavericks loss Wednesday against the New Orleans Hornets.

Would be so funny if their title hopes went out the window because of chicken pox

I'm surprised Blake didn't get the chicken pox as a little kid...

Huh crazy. Chicken pox are much worse the older you get. I'm used to when 1 kid gets chicken pox, all the parents take their kids to be around them so they can get it to.

It doesn't always happen for everyone, in their youth to get the pox. I mean, I know a few people who didn't personally.

I got 'em, but.

Yeah I know not everyone does, but seems more common than not that people do.

only 2% of adults over 30 are susceptible to chicken pox
