ESPN.com - Hard-luck QB Chad Pennington tore an ACL in a pickup basketball game and will undergo surgery next week, according to an ESPN.com report.

Pennington's agent, Tom Condon, said in a news release Thursday that Pennington will have the operation April 7 and well-known surgeon Dr. James Andrews will perform it.

The former Jets and Dolphins quarterback is now a free agent.

Dolphins HC had talks with him about him being a coach for the Dolphins. So, He'll have money.

doesn't surprise me. He'd make a good QB coach one day. God knows he's spent plenty of time on the sideline in crutches with a headset on.

He better hang em up. If he doesn't, It'd be stupid. When you get hurt in something like a pickup basketball game, or in any sport that's not the one you play, and have a history of injuries, outlook is bleak for you.

Pennington is one of those guys that stay injured. I don't understand if these dudes are soft.. or what.. but guys like him spend half their career on IR.
