A block is a block. You're exactly right mexi, so I don't get why I should matter how hard he hit it... Obviously if the block looks more flashier, it's going to give him more energy. If he blocks it softly, the Clippers can recover the ball. I don't find anything wrong with it. It's big defensive plays like that which give a team more energy on the offensive end.
it's smart basketball

blocking it like that assures the clippers get possession again. now, doing it with limited time on the clock might be the only time i'll accept it, but if you can block it to your teammate, it's things like that that give you extra buckets and help you become a better team. be smarter

players are getting dumber

It's not easy to block a ball and direct it to a team mate lol. There were way too many guys in the paint, I would of blocked it out of bounds for that reason; not take the chance on giving it back to the Clippers with a soft block and them getting an easy layup.

players arent getting dumber, the games is just changing... well some players are dumb. :p

blocking a ball that hard is still smart, damn. it gets his team going and puts the offense on edge. is it as smart as blocking and getting the ball and scoring? no. but its still a smart play.

thank you, my dude. +1 rep :p

like i said, going up and blocking to a teammate is so damn hard. especially since most shot blockers are help side blockers anyways.

He had to come a far way just to block it too so he had no time to think about how to direct the block. Otherwise it would of been a point for Blake.

you dont play basketball do you? do you swat shots? probably not like that..

bro, thats not going to get tapped to nene. thats finger tips hitting the ball out. and its at the height of his jump, now if is he heading down he could have swatted the ball DOWN.

smh, mexi. i cant believe we've gone on this long. we normally agree.

go away from blake, im not talking about that. i just said javale didnt have to hit it so hard because it just gave the clippers the ball back. grabbing it would have been nice as well

he didnt have to swat it out of bounds
he just had to tap it some, nene or chauncey would have gotten it

i guess we just disagree on this

no. no he couldnt. not at the height of his jump. you cant control that. he swatted that ball with his finger tips. like i said, had he blocked it as he was going down then he would have had more control.

:p

And especially since McGee was on the run before blocking it, he wouldn't have time to actually think. His objective was just to stop Blake from getting the point. End of conversation.

i hate that play
he didnt have to swat it that damn hard into the stands
just gave the clippers the ball back

i have this little saying i guess you can call it
if a player blocks someone, and the team doesnt score, it's a great play.
if a player blocks someone, and that team scores either right after which usually happens, or during that possession, "don't count. that block don't count"

but only if it happens right away, or at least under 12 seconds. block has to be relatively fresh

counts in the numbers, but not in my book
just like if you break someone's ankles and dont score. takes away some of the luster
Someone's mad Blake got demolished...

Can't believe you guys are arguing over that kidna thing.
Completely agree with Pugz. On many shots, it's asking way too much to control in what direction to swat the ball, you just happy that you got a piece of it. And it's all circumstancial whether you block it upwards or downwards. Most of the times those blocks look very powerful because the defender tries to move his arm/hand as quickly as possible, so when it connects, it's no surprise the ball sails into the stands.

The statement factor is huge, too. It can intimidate the shit out of you when you see your shot swatted away. They might get another possession and 2 points, but for the long run that player is gonna think twice about going to the hole and attempting a shot on you. Or he might does a weak floater or something like that, since he's scared of getting blocked.
Not necessarily Blake, but you get the point.
