After a meeting with Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein, the agent for Adrian Gonzalez believes the two sides will agree to a contract extension by April.

"I would anticipate something in April," agent John Boggs said.

"When in April? I don't know. It could be the beginning, middle, end. That's really the parameters. If something drags it on past that, then yeah, we'd probably have to revisit a lot of things, but I don't anticipate that at all."

Gonzalez will be a free agent after the 2011 season and the two sides hadn't talked since the first baseman was acquired from San Diego in early December.

"As expected, we had a very positive meeting with Theo," said Boggs. "At the end of the day, everything's been as expected. We sat down and discussed where basically Adrian's at. I think it's just going to move very positively.

"The main thing is the health issue. When they've seen him play every day, I think they're going to have a degree of comfort, and that's probably when they're going to get something done."

They're just waiting so they don't have to deal with the big luxury tax hit.

You guys gave up a bunch of prospects for him, you wouldn't have done that if you weren't sure his shoulder was going to heal.

You guys are just cheating the system

how? you're just mad the Yankees keep on giving contracts like 82.5 mil to Burnett, which keeps them over the tax

it would be pretty stupid actually to sign him now rather than 9 days.

Why would I be mad when you guys gave an even worse contract to Lackey? AJ Burnett got us to a World Series victory

1. exact same deal genius. 6 year, 82.5 mil

2. going 13-9 an a +4 ERA is getting you a WS victory?

and just saying, Lackey was much better than AJ last year

the only stat that aj was better at than Lackey was hits. Lackeyy had a better WP, ERA, WHIP, Ks, less walks

using "AJ Burnett got us to a World Series victory" as an excuse is absolute crap. CC was a boss, and your lineup had 8 guys with over 18 HR

Burnett is awful

But, the are cheating the system lol

There's a loophole that they can wait and bypass having to pay the luxury. They took advantage. As anyone else would do.

I'm well aware it's the exact same deal, but John Lackey hasn't done anything for you yet and just wasn't the same pitcher last year.

AJ Burnett got us 3 huge wins in the post-season and was dominant in those 3 starts in the World Series run. He did have 2 bad starts, but he came up big when it mattered.

I never said there was anything wrong with it, I'm just telling it like it is. All the teams who wait two weeks to bring up prospects to push back their service time and avoid "Super 2" status are cheating the system too.
