I think the cap will be a little more than 45M, but what does this say for Miami and New York?

This should put a end of all the Paul to New York talk, even though most knew it wasn't logical.

Of the 45M, New York already has over 36M wrapped up in their two stars for next season (then over 39M the next season and so on), Miami has over 47M wrapped up in their three. Miami may have to break up those three.

In the long run though, this is good for the league.

If that's the hard cap, the contracts better be scaled down because that would be completely unfair to any team that is already over.

If the owners want a 45M hard cap, I'd bet it's safe to say they want contracts reduced also. How much is another question? Your not going to have three superstars on your team either way.

Still not fair to make teams have to change their whole roster because of something new being implemented

this is such a dumb idea

so they basically wanna do away with the soft cap and just have a hard-cap? makes no sense.

This would make things very interesting, when a lot of players get cut. You never know who'll end up where with this happening

So what do you think they should do? Keep going where they're going and ruin the game even more?

It may not be fair to make them change their rosters, but it's more than fair to make this change. It's needed.

Not to mention it's the owners who want this change, they're the ones calling the shots.

Ruin the game? The game is heading in the direction where what everyone calls the prime of basketball was. Honestly, the league needs to contract about 10 teams

this is a horrible idea. a hard cap is ehh, but $45Mill is just nasty. no way the players agree to that. they better use whats happening to the nfl as an example of what not to let happen.

It needs to be contracted because the league sucks. All the good players want to play in the 4 or 5 big cities and everyone else is just left sitting. This league isn't headed anywhere but down, it's terrible. What they really need to do is contract 3/4 of the teams in the league and just leave who I'm about to list.

Any fan outside of Miami (you), New York, Boston, Chicago, LA, and maybe another team would agree with that, and I've seen it a number of times.

I like the hard cap, you just need to get the number right. 45M is very very low. What's it now, 58M? 13M difference could be 4 or more players, or 2 starter type guys.

They just have to get rid of the teams where no one wants to play, you don't have to get rid of 3/4 of the league to do so, you can't stop players from wanting to play in big markets and we've already seen players take pay cuts to go where they want, it can't be stopped

NOLA, like i understand what you're saying, but think of this

the NBA is a business. So the NBA tries to make the most money. When the Knicks, Heat, Lakers, Celtics, etc do well, they make lots of money

When the Hornets were really good a few years ago, the NBA wasn't making so much money in comparison, because New Orleans is not a top city in the NBA

So by having this cap, this evens out the talent in the NBA, which means a lower chance for Boston, LA, or NYK to be successful and therefore, less money for the NBA
