The Clippers could have traded Baron Davis and their number one pick in the 2011 NBA Draft that was used to acquire Mo Williams and Jamario Moon in a similar deal for the expiring contract of Yao Ming, according to Bill Simmons.

Los Angeles made the trade in order to improve their salary cap situation in each of the next two offseasons, but a trade for Yao would have produced more financial savings.

Simmons is known for having a close friendship with Houston general manager Daryl Morey.

Snap that would of been huge in reeling in someone.

But I guess they want to win games now, thats why they went with Mo Will.

Just when you thought the Clippers front office was getting better.

Should have made the distinction between the Clippers and Lakers in the title...because I gaurantee most thought you meant the Lakers

Nice lead in though lol

Fuck it, I couldn't have seen it working out for the Clippers

woulda given them some nice size in the paint with him and Griff.

I guess the Clips are glad it didn't happen.

EDIT: Is this pre-season or trade deadline?

This wasn't about getting Yao on the court... It was about shedding Baron Davis' contract quicker

This would have been worse for the Clips than the Cleveland trade

Trading a top 10 pick for cap relief is the still the dumbest thing I've ever seen a franchise do

its not that dumb if your management is good enough, but they arent. lol. plus, i really think yao could be a solid role player on a team. IF he takes a HUGE pay cut.

and supposedly, this draft is going to suck, so if you are going to trade a top draft pick, this is the draft to do it, right?

lets not act like the Clips always trade their picks anyways, cmon. they never do. most of their picks usually suck too. im surprised you guys arent saying "gee, finally they took a hint. everyone they draft is a bust, just trade the pick"

Sterling didnt even want to trade the pick, he gave free reign to their new GM

You believe everything that comes out of the LA media?

And even if the draft sucks, you can still find good talent in the top 10... It's not a deep draft, but their are players at the top who will make an impact.

true, but this is all gear towards the future, building the team around Blake and Gordon

they have plenty of young talent anyways
if this was the only way to get rid of Baron, then I would have done the MoWill trade over this too

Baron just was never committed to the Clippers. he half assed it the whole time. enough was enough
they finally found a team willing to take him, so they made the move

it involved a draft pick, so what. they are one of the few teams that could live without a top 1st round pick for a year

It's not deep but it's top heavy like I've said a bunch of times, there are 10 guys out there that are worth keeping B-Diddy's contract around, but you guys aren't even going to get that much salary relief from it because of Mo Will's player options

bottom line, what they've been doing hasn't been working, agree?

they truly believe in Blake and Gordon.

they never trade draft picks. they're trying something new
when you suck for this long and have the young talent they have, you have to try and win

baron is going to break down anyways. mo williams isn't horrible, and they save some money and will be players in the FA market soon. 2012 and i think this year too

don't forget Kaman's contract could be a pretty nice trade asset too. (though i dont know whats going to happen with the lockout)
