Corey Brewer(notes) has agreed to sign a multiyear contract with the Dallas Mavericks, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.

After securing a buyout from the New York Knicks, Brewer became one of the most desirable free agents for his athleticism and defensive versatility. Most of the NBA’s contenders – including Boston, San Antonio and Dallas – pursued the 6-foot-9 forward over the past several days.

Brewer, who turns 25 on Saturday, averaged 8.6 points and 1.5 steals for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season before he was sent to the Knicks in the Carmelo Anthony(notes) trade.

I'm surprised Boston didn't get this deal done. They could have used him as a perimeter defender to replace Tony Allen.

Yeah I think this was a good signing for the Mavs. Brewer's not a great shooter when it comes to consistency but he makes up for that with his defense which is something the Mavs need.

Mavs are so far over the cap now. I wonder if they win a title how much it cost to do it? lmao.

Caron goes down, we get Peja, Roddy back, and now Brewer. I'd say that fills the gap. Haven't really seen much of Brewer, from what I've seen on highlights and stuff, reminds me of when we had Marquis Daniels. Him and Peja should handle the 3 position now. I don't think there's any denying we are the deepest team in the NBA now.

Tyson / Haywood
Dirk / Marion
Peja or Brewer depending on matchup
Roddy / JET
Kidd / Barea

Some Stevenson and Mahimi too when needed.

Better than the 2006 Finals team IMO

We got the team, we got the record, now we just got to perform when it matters.

Bulls saw Corey Brewer as the same type of player Ronnie Brewer is, except worse on the defensive end.
