Raptors get Johnson from Bulls for 1st-round pick

Posted Feb 22 2011 7:12PM

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The Toronto Raptors are getting even younger by acquiring second-year forward James Johnson from the Chicago Bulls for a first-round pick in this year's draft.

General manager Bryan Colangelo says the Raptors have been eyeing Johnson since the 2009 draft. The former Wake Forest player went to the Bulls with the 16th pick.

Johnson has had a limited impact, playing in 78 games over two seasons and averaging 3.8 points and 1.9 rebounds. He recently served a stint in the NBA Development League.

The move gives Toronto another prospect as it continues to rebuild following Chris Bosh's offseason departure to Miami.
Not a huge deal IMO. But lots of people like this guy.

I know a few Raptors fans here who are a little pissed.

Can somebody please fill me in on this guy a tad bit more?

Yeah, I felt the same way too.. I don't follow the Raptors heavily, but I was telling them it would be a 25-30 pick most likely anyways.

Why not take a shot on a guy they feel has some potential?

Didn't play much in Chicago. Interested to see how he does in Toronto.

He's wearing #0 in Toronto. Pretty sweet. Still confused on which pick we traded for him.

Aside from the new teammates, the biggest difference for Johnson may be the fact that he decided to switch jersey numbers from 16 to 0.

"I just wanted a fresh start," he said of his old Bulls' number. "I didn't want 16 anymore. I wanted to start from zero and work my way up."
