Akeem Ayers is a very interesting prospect. In my current mock, I have him going to the Detroit Lions, even though there has been plenty of discussion about the Giants a few picks later.

He is one prospect getting a lot of love/hate depending on your side. What do you guys think?

I don't really see a ferocious attitude in him, as he does truly shy away from contact. He's more of a flashy type of player, and no doubt he will pop you in the mouth if he has a chance, but he loves to use his speed and run a lot to the ball carrier.

I don't think he will be a feared OLB among the league, but he will be a solid guy in a scheme where he will best be used to his abilities (using speed, dropping in some zone looks).

I'm kinda biased at Linebackers because I truly feel its a waste to spend a 1st round pick on a Linebacker when you can plug somebody in the 3rd round and they have the same production. The only way I'd spend a 1st round pick on one is if its a 3-4 rush backer, or a Patrick Willis or Ray Lewis.

I wouldn't touch him till the 2nd round.

Jerod Mayo (10th overall) is a top 5 MLB in the NFL, and he was definitely worth the 1st.

I would take Ayers in the 1st, but not in the top 16 picks. 2nd half of the 1st round at the earliest

lol dude
And Stephen Tulloch was a fourth rounder, and was second in the league in total tackles. You can get the same production pretty much from a 1st rounder to a 3rd.

Tackles aren't the best indicator of best MLB, but I agree with the point to a certain extent. Almost every year, a 2nd or 3rd round LB emerges and is very good. But the thing is, LBs are often leaders of the team and to potentially get the next Ray Lewis not only in terms of playing but leadership it makes sense to take a LB in the first.

I think MLB's are worth the first rounder, but OLB's? I'm not so sure on that one...

If you count rush ends as linebackers they sure are worth it.

James Harrison and Woodley weren't exactly sought after in the Draft though. There are cases for both sides.
