Yahoo! Sports - Auburn quarterback Cam Newton's pending media workout has drawn skepticism from NFL scouts.

The NFL isn't allowed to attend the workout in California, which is set for Feb. 10 in Del Mar at a high school.

A scout called the workout a publicity stunt while talking to Rob Rang of NFL Draft Scout.

"The Newtons would be best to realize they aren't in college anymore," a high-level scout told Rang.

"Regardless of how good he looks for [the media], there isn't going to be a bidding war for him. We're not recruiting him. They could wind up turning more people against them than for them with this [workout]."

Any team would be lucky to get Cam..
You get a 2 for 1 deal.

Cam Newton himself (player)
and his father (bitchy "I LIVE THROUGH MY SON" coach)

YAY?

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. Whichever team drafts Newton in the first (because he will go in the first) will be stuck looking for another QB shortly down the line. The guy is gonna be a bust. He feels he's entitled to something, you can tell. As great as the SEC is, it's not the NFL. He's going to have trouble being the "rookie" and those 6 foot 230 lb linebackers running 4.7's will turn into 6'3 250 lb linebackers running 4.5's.

Cecil Newton is desperately trying to hype up his son through the media, b/c as its been pointed out, NFL scouts aren't too high on him. Cam can launch passes, in front of cameras, on an empty field all he wants...he's not a first round draft pick & won't be seeing any massive signing bonuses.

I don't think we'll ever have the right to call Cam Newton a "bust" b/c I can't see a team in the NFL that gives him a legit opportunity to be "the guy" under center. It'll take a similar road to that of Dennis Dixon, in order for Newton to get a chance to lead an offense in a regular season game.

Are you being serious? He will be a first rounder, and he will get a shot.

Kill Cam is going 1st round based on his potential alone. This dude is twice the player Tebow is and and Teebs went 1st round.

Lets get 2 things straight
Tebow didn't go 1st round due to his potential or ability.
Tebow wen't first round due to the fact that he had an attitude and leadership ability that no other QB in NFL History had. His intangibles was off the chart. If he didn't work out, then hey, you got yourself a hell of a football player at FB or TE.

Newton on the other hand is a immature dumbass who thinks he deserves more than he is already getting because he had 1 good college year.

^ What Kam just said...plus the fact that if Newton was such a lock of a 1st round pick, he wouldn't be trying to generate all this media attention.

I would say a majority of this site needs to wake the hell up, jump off Cam Newton's nuts, and realize that 1 collegiate season with a zillion yards rushing for a QB, doesn't mean jackshit as far as NFL potential is concerned.

Cam is a gimmick college quarterback, he's surrounded by shady people, he's made a lot of poor choices off the field, and no, I don't think 1 stellar year in CFB has any pro scouts thinking that he is worth the gamble. Cam will fall to a team who makes the pick for the attention and/or b/c most needs have been addressed & Cam is the best athlete on left on the boards.

As much as I hate Cam Newton, and as overrated as he may be, I'm willing to bet anything that he is a first round pick.

I said the exact same thing about Tebow. I said it before his senior year even started at Florida.

That ^ is all I'm saying. He absolutely will be a first rounder, and absoutely will get a shot. I'm not saying he'll succeed, but someone will take a chance.

Find me a team in the first round that will "take a shot" on Newton...first round...and I will be more than happy to crush the prediction.

Are you guys so blind? The college football season is over, NFL scouts aren't high on the guy, the media stopped giving a shit, and Cecil is trying to start the circus back up. Its no wonder...

The Dolphins would be the first team to come up that might look at Newton. After that, anything after 22 could be in play. With all the moving and shaking on draft day, there's no way to accurately predict where he might go, but any number of teams could trade up in the late 1st.

Newton is a rare athlete. Not many people have his blend of size, speed and power. Think Jevon Kearse playing quarterback. Whether he works out at QB is a mystery. Personally, I don't think he's going to be worth a fuck as a QB, but he will, he WILL be a first round pick. Quote me on that.

Shit, Blaine Gabbert is almost an exact replica of Newton. He's not as athletic obviously, but they're both eerily similar.

So your telling me Miami would pass up Gabbert, Locker, Mallet, and Ponder...in favor of Newton? I'm sorry but if Miami is in fact done waiting for Henne to replicate 2008, then they will make the safest pick at QB available, and that doesn't equate to Cam Newton. Lets take a look at pick 22 on....Manning, Vick/Kolb, Brees, Hasselbeck, Flacco, Ryan, Brady, Cutler, Sanchez, Rodgers, and Big Ben....nope...definitely not happening. Nobody is burning up a late-1st for a 2nd string, (at best), quarterback...I don't care how many highlights he has in the SEC.

Also, with all the Tebow comparison...let his lack of success and what Denver gave up to get him, be all the reason you need to believe that it's highly unlikely a team trades back into the 1st round in order to take Newton.

When did I ever say Newton was going ahead of Gabbert? Gabbert will be gone by 16. I also find it hilarious that you bring up Locker and Ponder in this argument. Newton isn't a "safe" pick by any means, but Ponder and Locker are legitimately awful quarterbacks.

I also never said any specific team after 22. If he doesnt go in the early 20's, I see someone trading up. Tebow was a goddamn rookie last year, lol...how about waiting until he plays two years in the NFL before saying he has had no success, eh?

I don't even disagree with you about Newton. I'm just saying, don't be at all surprised if he's a first round pick.

I asked for 1 team that would legit-take a chance on Newton in the 1st. You said Miami and I then I gave you a handful of QB's that Miami would take ahead of Newton. I don't know what the hell you're talking about...when exactly did I put those words into your mouth?

Locker ran a pro-style offense under Ty Willingham for 2 years and then Steve Sarkisian for another 2 years. Locker has started since a true freshman, is 10-times the pro style quarterback that Cam Newton could ever wish to be, and Locker actually understands an NFL playbook.

Bashing Christian Ponder means you obviously paid no attention to the Senior Bowl...which in turn, means you really don't know what the hell you're talking about. Yeah...it's cool to be a Cam Newton fan right now, but don't allow the hoopla to cloud better judgment.

Cam Newton was a special CFB player, for one season, but he's nothing the NFL hasn't already seen, chewed up, and spit out before. Cam can thank vintage Michael Vick for spoiling the fun for him. NFL defenses don't let one-dimensional, running qb's do what Vick used to do anymore. It's going to take an accuracy and reads, that Vick found after jailtime, and Newton just doesn't have.

He will be a R1 guy. Quote me on it too. Some people think he'll be top 10.
I won't quote it but you'll be the first person I think of...when Newton is squirming in his chair, come round 2.
