Source: Bengals fire Bob Bratkowski

With their offense seemingly in disarray, the Cincinnati Bengals fired offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski, a team source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Bratkowski's dismissal comes as quarterback Carson Palmer has requested a trade and receiver Chad Ochocinco (soon to be Johnson again) is using Twitter to call out Marvin Lewis, who agreed to an extension earlier this month to remain the Bengals' coach.

Owner Mike Brown said last week that the team won't trade Palmer. Ochocinco will be back with the Bengals unless the team trades or releases him.

The 2010 season was Bratkowski's 10th as the Bengals' offensive coordinator.

The Bengals' offense bounced from a run-based approach in 2009 to a mix of run-and-pass in 2010 that didn't work during the team's dismal 4-12 season. With Terrell Owens and Ochocinco as his top targets, Palmer completed 362 of a team-record 586 attempts for 3,970 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also matched his career high with 20 interceptions.

As the season went along, Owens openly questioned the coaches' play calling, saying the Bengals should throw more. Running back Cedric Benson said the team should have stayed with its run-first philosophy.

Owens and Benson will be free agents once the NFL's owners and players agree to a new collective bargaining agreement.
And Bengals is happy.

If you don't care, then don't post. I could go without hearing you most of the time anyways.
I don't whats worse.

Colt fans blaming Pierre Garcon for Peyton Mannings INTs because he "ran the wrong route" on plays when Manning wasn't even throwing to him..

OR

Bengals Fans blaming a COACH for Palmers INTs because his plays are "too predictable".. last time I checked, Bratkowski wasn't throwing the football.

I never said that, I said his play calling is atrocious and it doesn't help Carson and the entire offense in general. The players jobs are to play & execute and the offensive coordinators job is to make sure the offense is in sync and calling good plays throughout the game, which he did not do. I'm not blaming it on any one coach or player, but this was the first move that was a must. When I can call the plays from my couch, what is going to happen when the opposing defense studies you all week? Bad things will happen. I mean, when you do the same thing, over and over and over, teams will know what to do. As I said before, I'm fine with Carson at QB, hopefully he will be better next year, especially when we play the Jaguars.

Carson made a lot of poor decisions this year, I'm not going to deny that, but hopefully he will improve or he won't be here much longer, and I believe he will.

LOL.

You really make me laugh kid.

I think its this. You're a Carson Palmer homer, and its understandable. You never want to see any of your favorite players play bad, but when they do, you can't admit to the fact that he sucks shrimpdick, so then you go and blame it on Bratkowski. When in reality, Bratkowski isn't the person throwing the ball into the defenses hands for 6.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Carson Palmer is a middle of the road/MEH QB. You can easily get the same production out of a rookie QB this year as you could with Carson and he'll have more upside. The Bratkowski firing also doesn't mean that Palmer will be back, Palmer never stated that Bob was the reason why he wanted to leave, and if I'm correct, he said he felt as if his time in Cincy was just done.

As for the Jaguars thing. Our defense will be vastly improved this Offseason and I can bet you that, so I wouldn't mind watching Derek Cox or any of our players for that fact running back the other way with a couple of INTs.

Also, whos going to want to take the OC job at cincy. It's not like they'll have Job Security since we all know that Marvin will be fired next year and his staff (including OC) will be fired also. So it's not like people around the block are signing up thats better than BOB. You Bengal fans really have shit fucked up.

If anything, I bet half of the board doesn't even care about the Bengals nor Bratkowski. We're just happy that its over with so in every single thread we don't have to hear about got damn Bob Bratkowski from you. But, yet, we're disappointed because we'll still have to hear you blame somebody (other than Palmer) for why your offense shits the bed this year.

I am a big Palmer fan and want to see him do well, but most importantly I'm a Bengals fan and if I thought they needed to release him to improve, I'd say it as such. But, as of right now, who is better out in free agency and in the draft? Nobody. So getting rid of him at this point in time, wouldn't make much sense nor make the team better. Funny thing is, all of the players - Terrell Owens, Cedric Benson, Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson etc said the guy makes no adjustments whatsoever, it's funny when players within the team are praising "Oh happy day" after a coach is fired, I'm here to tell you, there's a reason why they feel that way and I feel that way. By no means am I saying Palmer will be a top QB after a new offensive coordinator, but it will help the offense in general.

Marvin Lewis will not be fired next year, he was just given a two year contract, he will be the Bengals head coach for at LEAST two more years. I surely can tell you know nothing about the Bengals & how Mike Brown runs the organization. Whoever the new offensive coordinator will be (hopefully Jeremy Bates), will be here for quite awhile. Do you really think Mike Brown would hire a new coach and fire him the next season? Yeah right! I'd take the offensive coordinator from the Cadillac Vikings pee-wee team for Bob Bratkowski. Anybody, and I mean anybody, will be a step up at the position. He's been here for 10 years, it's time for someone else to take over, he's had his time and it hasn't worked. If anybody has shit fucked up, it's you. You run around here acting as if you know everything about all 32 teams in the NFL, inside and out, when in all reality, you have no clue. I've been following this team for years, I know what's right and what's wrong, you have no clue.

I could care less if the board doesn't care about the Bengals, I will continue what I'm doing, whether you like it or not. I don't know anybody that cares about Bratkowski, because I know I don't, he's not apart of the team, why worry about him now? Maybe the Jaguars will be able to find a useful position for him. You'll definitely be hearing a lot more out of me from this point on, or will continue I should say. I'm rather certain I will be able to come up with something else to talk about, hopefully it will draw your attention as everything else I've posted has. Always like to hear what Mr. Know it all has to say.

The Bengals were beyond the point of firing the offensive coordinator b/c shit isn't working on the field. Of all franchises in the league, never have I seen one ran so unorthodox in my entire life. Anywhere else in the NFL, they're pretty much admitting a peak with what they have in place...gone is Marvin Lewis, his staff, loud-mouth distracting veterans, and even Carson Palmer. I wouldn't necessarily compare Carson to where Marc Bulger was at but something like the Rams finally did a couple seasons ago, fucking clean house & start fresh.

Mike Brown doesn't follow trends, however.

I would like to say i'm surprised this topic wasn't started by Dustin. Haha.

They offense was predictable, and things weren't working. Sure Carson hasn't played as well as he used to, but they just got to be very predictable and you can't get past defenses playing like that. They could be just as bad next year, better, or even worse. I just know that everyone, mostly among the fan base, wanted him gone, and they got their wish.

I was so excited I couldn't even think straight at that point in time of the announcement of the firing to post it on here, lol. The offense was too predictable, if anyone actually watched any of the games, they would have seen that. Just look at week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens for example... I cannot tell you how many times we had 3 & 1 and ran it EVERY TIME to the SAME side EVERY TIME. I don't know who the new offensive coordinator is yet, but we just wanted a change, an overdue change I might add and it happened. Whether Carson comes back or not I don't have any idea, if he doesn't, well then, lets hope we have a good backup plan in store or we might be looking at Andrew Luck in 2012.

Rumors & speculation right now say Jay Gruden will be the next Bengals OC... We'll see if that holds true... I don't even know Jay Gruden, but I figured we would hire some guy I've never heard of..
