Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew(notes) recently divulged that, in addition to playing 14 games on a torn meniscus, he experienced bone-on-bone contact in the back of his right knee toward the end of the season. PFW recently spoke to an orthopedic surgeon on the condition of anonymity who said that bone-on-bone contact occurs when the articular ligament wears down, and it is a separate and more serious condition than a torn meniscus that has in some cases shortened player's careers. Jones-Drew reportedly underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in early January, which requires a rehabilitation period of 4-6 weeks. But MJD announced this week that his recovery timetable would be four months, which suggests that a more significant procedure occurred. Jones-Drew is a very powerful runner who relies heavily on his lower body strength, and we hear he could have similar problems with this condition in the future, as there is not believed to be a permanent fix.

This sucks. He had a good year last year with all his problems, but hopefully he can get it fixed a bit.

LOL The doubters start back up.

During last preseason teams said they didn't think MJD would play in most of the games and certainly not at a high level due to his knee. Gene Smith said this week that Maurice was healing well and will be back to normal when training camp comes.

Who to believe, Gene Smith...or a doctor who actually knows what he's talking about?

I'll roll with the doctor.
