Actually, Stafford did have the "WOW" factor at Georgia. He had amazing arm strength and accuracy, and his knowledge of plays was amazing. I remember they did a "chalk talk" on NFL Network one time with him and Mike Mayock, and he completely left Mayock impressed. At the time, Stafford was the best QB in the class. Sanchez only started 16 college games, which isn't alot. Freeman was very raw and some didn't know how well he'd work out in the NFL.
Also, The Lions taking Stafford had nothing to do with Millen. Normally whenever a team decides to rebuild over, they start with a new QB.. which is exactly what Mayhew was doing. Stafford at the time was worth the #1 pick. Who else? Aaron Curry? Jason Smith? Crabtree? It was a weak class overall.
