ESPN - The Colts are prepared to make Peyton Manning the highest-paid player in the NFL.

"Yeah, I think something will get done [with Manning], but it's hard to predict when," agent Tom Condon said Tuesday.

Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay reiterated late last week that he still intends to make Manning, the only four-time MVP in league history, the NFL's highest-paid player.

"I'm not going to get into any specifics in terms of the negotiations, but I've said before this is an unusual situation," Irsay said.

"It's not a normal negotiation, his legacy and our relationship, it's very unusual. You hope it happens a lot, but it doesn't."
I wonder what Kam will say.

I mean, he deserves it.. I give it one more season and he'll overtake Warren Moon for the record for "most one and dones in postseason".... That deserves something.

While if Mark Sanchez wins this weekend, he'll have 6 road postseason wins in his career, more than any other player in NFL history I believe.

That line sounds weird to me.

I'm not surprised by this. I mean, obviously they we're going to pay him more and whatnot, and even though he struggled a bit this season, he still has the track record that can't be ignored. It's pretty tough for a guy, on his off year, can still get into the playoffs.

Also, I know I'm going to be the only person to think about it and bring it up, but this move could well in doubt hurt the Colts in the long run. If Manning was in his 20's and they wanted to make him the highest paid player, then good. However, he's 34 years old and the Colts have already shown to be dropping off a little bit. The Colts aren't a big market team either, you'd think they would wanna save money and put it for other positions on the defense and helping them grow as a team so they can make one big last "run" for Manning a superbowl. Instead, they are wanting to put Peyton Manning (34) as the highest paid player in the NFL based on what he's done in the past. I know if I was the GM, this would be going around in my head. Right now is where Peytons value is the highest, why not try to call a couple of teams seeing if they would be willing to throw the farm for him? and I'm talking MULTIPLE draft picks for years. I believe a team like the Browns or somebody would quickly jump to that.

Think about the teams who have had some of the greatest QBs in history, Broncos - Elway, Dolphins - Dan Marino, Cowboys - Roger Staubach, Vikings - Fran Tarkenton.. the list goes on. They completely tanked whenever they lost that QB.

Teams like the 49ers were successful when Joe Montana left because they had another Great QB in Steve Young, or Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. The Colts however don't have that. I'd be trying to rebuld now why Manning is here, so when he leaves, it'll still be fine instead of tanking.

So basically what I'm saying is, I would probably trade Manning if the deal was worth it.

Can't say it doesn't make sense either.

No surprise here. With the offensive line probably improving throughout the offseason and getting players back, I expect him to be strong next year. He wasn't terrible this year by any means, but just didn't have a Manning-like season. Too many critical interceptions at critical times, something you don't usually see out of Manning. He's still a top 3-4 QB. He's definitely not getting any younger, however. That has to be worrisome for Colts fans for the future. Still has some good years left in him though, but it's definitely something we'll have to start looking at more in the next few years.

+1

i think they should save money to help put people around peyton and sturdy the defense instead of dropping all the money on him when he's deep into his career.

Yep exactly, I know if I was a Colts fan, I wouldn't be too excited about this TBH.

In football, they can choose to backload or frontload the contracts rights? Like paying them more in their first season and then generally decreasing the salary (or the opposite if you're backloading it). If so, they should definitely front load his contract. Pay him the most while he's still elite.

But I love that Sanchize bit you threw in their kam :p

I wish we could have spent some of that money for a player like Barry Cofield, or Brandon Mebane...

Wins isn't a stat you can base QBs off just purely btw Kam, but let's not get into this again. I'm done with this shit.

Actually, you can.

If Tony Dungy gets fired from Tampa because he can't win in the playoffs along with Marty Schottenheimer in San Diego then how come Pay-ME-A-TON Manning gets a free pass? Let me see, because Colt fans are busy making excuses to save their "image" of their little QB with shit like "Its the defenses fault" or "Player A ran the wrong route". Peyton will be making the most money in the NFL, so why doesn't he get any blame? I think its about time he does. If you Colt fans can say "We have Peyton so anything is possible" or "Peyton is the reason why we made it to the playoffs" then don't sit here and try to cover up hes the reason once you bum in the playoffs.

Peyton Manning just isn't a playoff QB, lets be honest. In the Regular Season he is money, in the post season he crumbles like the big headed moron he is.

Peyton Manning: (63.1%) for 5,389, 29 TD's, 19 INT's, YPA 7.5, and a 88.4 QB Rating

Tom Brady: (62.2%) for 4,407, 30 TD's, 16 INT's, YPA 6.5, and a 85.7 QB Rating.

Manning has had some game winning drives like Brady too. YUP!!! Peyton is the worst playoff QB ever for sure.

It's weird how a guy, who is one of the best QB's in history, basically dominates the regular season, but goes flat in the playoffs. If the Colts didn't win the SB, Peyton would be like the LeBron of the NFL. Performs great, but no hardware to show for it. Not that i'm comparing the two. Completely different sports, so that would be idiotic to compare the two. I'm just speaking as the person. Hyped up as the best at what they do. Just goes to show how important the playoffs are to a players legacy. Especially the SB.

I agree with Bleacher about giving him a frontloaded contract. If he was younger, it'd be backloaded, but obviously he's not. I'm curious how Peyton will do next year. Not having Dallas Clark really hurt, which was expected. With Dallas back next year, he should have a better year. Stats wise, possibly translating to record as well. Colts aren't the team they used to be anymore, but I have a feeling they will have another 10 win season, at the least.

Why are you bringing up Brady? Nobody even mentioned him in this thread. Stop trying to cover up the fact.
