All that Harbaugh to Michigan talk was 100% speculation. IDK why Michigan fans even thought there was a chance just because he went there and is a booster or whatever? He never said anything about coaching there did he?

He is a West Coast guy now, all the Michigan talk was indeed speculation.

Yeah, I think it was just speculation. But him being a Michigan guy people thought we would have a better chance at getting him, until the NFL teams got involved.

For some reason, I feel like they'll take a CB or LB rather than a QB =(

If anything, they'll probably go with Mallett sadly...pray for Cam

Jim Harbaugh runs a complete pro style offense, Cam would not fit in at all.

Great news for San Francisco and their fans, I expect good things in the future, I like his brother John as well, Baltimore Ravens head coach, both will succeed at the NFL level. (John already is) I just got at the hotel, turned the TV on and seen it running across the bottom of the screen, good deal for the 49ers, got a good coach.

Are people really wondering where all the Michigan speculation came from?

Had he been moderately successful at Stanford, I really think Jim is being introduced at Michigan; however, you don't turn down $7M per for the chance to coach an NFL franchise. Nobody wants that Michigan job, at least nobody who has other options.

Harbaugh made a good choice, he's gonna bring back the West Coast offense back to San Fran, and the search for the franchise quarterback begins. One name that came to mind, Kevin Kolb. Mallett, Newton, and Locker aren't best suited to run that scheme...so I expect Baalke and Harbaugh to use the trade market and/or wait another year for Luck. Kolb makes perfect sense for the 49ers and should the Eagles opt to invest longterm to Vick...there is no sense in keeping Kolb around. Kolb was given a nice contract extension before this season, way more than you pay a #2, he'll be out of his prime by the time Vick is done, and he's got a high value.

I never once thought he was coming to Michigan, because I didn't see anything real solid to make me believe it. Obviously it'd come up because he played there and all that, but once I saw the NFL teams getting interested, I knew he wasn't staying in college. Hard for a coach to pass up on that opportunity. Great signing for the 49ers. He's proven he can win in college, now let's see how he does at pro.

I never heard anything about him being interested in coaching Michigan, or Michigan asking him to coach there...nothing at all

I agreed with you...til you mentioned Kolb. I seriously hope his average ass stays put in Philly. Mallett and Locker are more suited than Cam, but I wanna see Cam in there under center. I can see them sucking on purpose to bring in Luck though -_-. I don't think Kolb is good, and really don't think they should even think about that.

Its very fair to assume that any coach would love the opportunity to take over at their alma mater, when said school plays on such a big stage. Stanford is obviously better than Michigan right now but Michigan is still the bigger stage. Harbaugh to Michigan was being talked about even before the 2010 football season began.

I would take Kolb as my west coast quarterback over Cam Newton anyday. Cam Newton is this college season's hard on. The guy may not be exactly the same but for me, he's Jamarcus Russell v2. I am also high on Locker but he's too mobile for the west coast attack.

So there was no real backing to that story...thats all I get from that lulz

I like Locker actually, but I just want Cam because I look at his upside. I'll be satisfied with whatever though as long as they aren't fucking up with their pick.

Lol pm7 you know nothing about this... No Michigan talk?

"I had some options at the college level and pro teams, and two that I'd like to highlight, Stanford and Michigan, both of them I consider my universities and they have great leaders at both schools and will have great coaches."

Great pickup by San Fran. I had a feeling he would sign with San Fran.
NFL.com story

They do need a QB now. I'm hoping Alex Smith leaves in FAcy, and they pick up another good QB.
