A lot of talk that Rangers vs. Flyers @ The Linc for 2012...meh. This New York vs. Philadelphia match-up in every sport is already getting old. I definitely agree with getting the Rangers in there, finally, but I would rather see the game played away from the Northeast...or at least not recycle teams so fast.

Some ideas I have...and sorry, I have to omit Canadian teams. I know NBC has zero interest in showcasing anything less than major or interesting American markets.

Dallas vs. Minnesota @ Target Field
(My idea for 2011 but not enough interest in either team for a national game. I'm also hearing the NHL prefers football stadium for the bigger capacity.)

New Jersey vs. Detroit @ The Big House
(The Devils are pewtrid right now but I have to believe they'll be better next season. The two franchises that dominated the league for a decade. Doesn't get any bigger than U of Mich's house.)

Kings vs. Avalanche @ Invesco
(Iffy on the appeal of this game but it's the most likely scenario of a game played in the western portion of the US. It would be sweet to see the Kings don the uniforms of the Gretzky era...while the Avs go retro Nordiques.)

Bruins vs. Rangers @ Central Park
(The wackiest idea I have but it would be awesome to see Central Park completely packed around the icerink. It wouldn't be easy but massive concerts have been put on there before. Central Park is the greatest place on Earth for me.)

My idea for the winter classic is to stop having one because it is played out.

Bruins/Rangers would be nice but, like this year, I'd rather wait a while to see a team that's already been in one play again. I think that's how the Winter Classic is losing appeal. Sure, the whole ratings thing comes into affect, but the point of this should be to "go back to hockey's roots" and play a game outside and showcase the teams/game. You just don't get that with the same teams over and over.

I like Dallas/Minny

No, just no.

If the Leafs are going to play, it will be against Ottawa or Montreal.
I'd like to see Leafs/Sens at the Rogers Center or something...fuck, I'd go to that lol

Yeah I agree, it loses its appeal when you have the same teams constantly playing one another.

Anyways Sam I doubt the NHL is interested in BMO Field with the capacity being just over 20,000.

The Winter Classic isn't losing its appeal. Not when the ratings just shot through the roof for this last one. Of course moving the game into a primetime-slot helped....something I totally expect NBC to do again moving forward.

Should have been primetime from the beginning. Also, should be the only game going on at the time; maximizes rating.

I think one day there does need to be a Habs-Leafs match up for a winter classic.

As an American, I'd rather see two American teams.

NBC thinks the same way as I do, sadly. Maybe they'd put a Canadian Vs. American team...but I don't think they're gonna risk two Canadian markets on primetime in America.
