A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that the Panthers will interview Chargers DC Ron Rivera regarding their head coaching vacancy.
The meeting's date is unknown, but it's our first formal head-coaching interview of the "offseason." Rivera coordinated the NFL's No. 1 defense in 2010, despite a large amount of personnel change from the year before. The Panthers are targeting an NFL assistant as opposed to a college coach or retread head coach, most likely because of money. Also satisfying the Rooney Rule, Rivera shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to lure out of San Diego. Jan. 2 - 7:18 pm et

Defensive mind, he would be a nice presence for the Panthers to continue with their plan of hard-nosed football.

I think Ron Rivera would be a good coach for the Panthers, just never know how these coordinators will do as head coach. I think Rivera would be good though. Panthers are going to be good in the future.

Anybody who has watched the Chargers and that defense and the Bears when Ron Rivera was there knows hes a fluke. I still think the Panthers should go after Harbaugh.

But the Panthers won't pay that much for a big name head coach like Harbaugh.

Harbaugh isn't a "big name" coach.
Hes coming from Stanford, not like hes Bill Cowher. Also, you mean to tell me Harbaugh wouldn't take less or whatever to be with the QB he basically trained at Stanford.

a lot of people overlooking Brian Billick's desire to return to head coaching. He might be one of the more solid candidates out there.

I mean really, its horrible.

Also, I don't see why the hell Rob Ryan is getting interest, if Rex wasn't his brother then he would have NOTHING going for him, because his defenses are certainly horrible as fuck. Thats the difference between Rex and Rob, Rex uses the 46 defense that made his father famous with the 85 Bears. Rob uses a base 4-3 defense and he simply just doesn't know what the hell hes doing. I swear I feel like I could do a better job as a head coach than 95% of the canidates sometimes.

Maybe you should get factual info if you're going to start bashing people..

Because he doesn't run a 4-3, and he hasn't exactly had enough talent to coach how he wants to with different blitz packages.

In Oakland, Im pretty sure his defense was a base 4-3. It might of switched in Cleveland, I don't think it was on his terms though.

He may not be proven especially at the NFL level, but he's a coach that lots of teams are looking at, he is a good coach that would make whatever team he goes to better.
