Jim Harbaugh-to-49ers speculation heats up
Multiple reports indicate that Trent Baalke will be promoted to G.M. of the 49ers, with Comcast Bay Area’s Mindi Bach the latest to say that “Baalke is the guy.”

A formal interview is expected soon, possibly Saturday according to Matt Maiocco. The 49ers are moving quickly, possibly because they know what head coach they want Baalke to hire.

“There is a firm belief among NFL insiders — and some folks at Stanford — that Baalke will be able to deliver Jim Harbaugh to be the 49ers’ head coach,” Maiocco writes.
Harbaugh coaches on New Year’s Day, and there is speculation that the 49ers will move quickly to hire him. Our pals at CFT write that Harbaugh won’t talk about possible NFL jobs in the buildup to the Orange Bowl. But he didn’t deny interest.
“I don’t want to put a timeline on it,” Harbaugh said when asked about making a decision about his future.
ESPN’s John Clayton believes the 49ers fired Mike Singletary after Week 16 in part to get a headstart on pursuing Harbaugh.

I would LOVE this move. Please make it happen some how. But if he doesn't take the job, I kind of understand lol

If Baalke really is "the guy", then he would set his tenure off nicely by bringing in Jim

They need more than a good coach to become a "great" team. Its gonna take some more contributors and a winning attitude if they want to drop the mediocre label and get out there and do their fucking job.

Well, if anyone is going to turn around a team, it's Jim Harbaugh. Yes, they need to improve some positions, but Harbaugh is a great start.

Stanford has been pretty good lately so this Jim fella must be alright. I'd be fine with him coming to San Fran. I just hope they can get things done quick so they can start building.

I think it'd be a bad move for Harbaugh

Jim is a great coach there is no doubt about that, and he would absolutely help the 49ers, but he has a great thing at Stanford. Yes, he could leave on top and go try out a pro team, but I think he should stay at Stanford for now. There will always be jobs in the NFL, and he'll be great wherever he goes. I think he'll manage to get a job in the NFL even if he stays at Stanford and has a bad year.
