The Nets and Nuggets are working towards a complicated multi-team trade proposal that would send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Anthony is expected to accept a contract extension with the Nets following a trade if the team is able to bring back a package of significant talent with him, according to league sources.

So far, packages include some of Anthony's Denver teammates -- including Al Harrington.

"The way this is structured now, the Nets will significantly upgrade their team," said one league executive.

The other teams involved in the talks aren't yet known.

Currently, the Nets are preparing to send Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, two or three first-round picks and $3 million to the Nuggets for Anthony and Harrington. More players from both sides would likely be involved.

According to a source, Brook Lopez is the only player the Nets haven't involved in any scenario.

No deal is imminent, but sources involved in the talks believe that early January is a realistic target.

Dallas wants to rent Melo for the postseason:

Part of Dallas’ strategy, according to sources, is to shift the Anthony discussions to what Cuban recently called the “rent-a-player” phase, which would drive down the price and encourage other teams to present offers without assurances that Anthony would stay put for five years — the two he has remaining (including the early-termination option for 2011-12) plus the extension.

Such potential suitors, including the Mavs, do not have enough of what Denver is looking for to compete with New Jersey’s best offer. But if Dallas is successful in shifting Denver’s focus to “rental” deals, the Nets would then have to decide how much they are willing to give up to acquire a franchise cornerstone for their move to Brooklyn — even if Anthony could leave them in the dust as a free agent before the team even got there.

It depends on how much they have to give up. If it includes JJB or Beabois I'd say not a chance. Butler and or Marion I think they could do. But I doubt they will, the Mavs don't want to screw up what they have going right now.

BUT if they did get it done I could see Melo sticking with them. Mavs are a good team and would really help him win.

From what I heard, we have a small percentage of getting him. The deal would probably be for us, Caron and Stevenson and Roddy B and a few picks. But they already got Ty Lawson as the PG of the future so..

I don't really want him, his ego might ruin what we have going, we've never had this good of chemistry with any team in the Dirk era

Melo to the Mavs is highly unlikely for two reasons:

A) Cuban has stated that he will not pursue Melo, unless the Nets deal with the Nuggets dies.

B) Denver wants young talent and picks in return for Anthony, not players that are clearly out of their prime.

Plus Melo I think would have a hard time realizing it's Dirk's team. His ego is pretty huge.

We've won 16 of 17 and are 23-5, we don't need to mess it up. I think it's the fact that this is the best team Dallas has ever had possibly, and we want to make sure it doesn't end in another collapse.

We'll have a whole new dimension when Roddy B comes back, which is in the next week or two

nah Twill's usually pretty serious when he posts.

And that trade would never happen. No reason for the Lakers to trade Kobe and the Magic to trade Howard, especially when they just traded to add talent around Howard to win a title and keep him around for many more years.

Plus, just too many people involved. Too complicated, and would never work.
