Rex Grossman to start over McNabb
After a week filled with rumors and denials in Washington, it appears that Mike Shanahan really has decided to go with the nuclear option at quarterback: Rex Grossman.

Kelli Johnson of Comcast Sportsnet in Washington reports that Grossman will get the call Sunday in Dallas over Donovan McNabb. She’s told the Redskins locker room is “divided and guys are extremely upset.”

We’re waiting to confirm this news. (Johnson had a source Tuesday saying the change was unlikely.)

If it’s true, imagine how McNabb feels. Coming off a decent effort against the Bucs, McNabb said he would expect to hear from his coach if there was any chance he was getting benched this week.

“I would have hoped,” McNabb said Wednesday. “That’s professionalism. Communication.”

The longer this ugly, bizarre year in Washington drags on, the less likely it seems McNabb will be communicating with Shanahan at all during the 2011 season.

UPDATE: The report has been confirmed by the Washington Post. This is a strong statement by the Shanahans. They already gave their financial apology to McNabb, so this looks like a possible first step in saying goodbye.

I think Shanahan hates the Redskins and took this job just to set them back for years.

This is one of the most thuggin moves Shanny has ever done. He doesn't give a <Censored> about Donovan and he's showing him he'd rather have Rex's <Censored>ty ass out there instead of him

Wow, I don't see how you can bench Donovan McNabb, that's crazy. Especially for Rex Grossman?? C'mon.

No matter where Donovan goes, he keeps getting thrown under the bus, never this bad though.

Shanny just does what he does. I bet Donovan was pissing him off somehow.

Mike Shannahan (in a Lovie Smith voice), "Rex is our quarterback."

Rex has definitely proven he is worth being started over Donovan. He is a much better QB than Donovan. :rotfl:

McNabb has sucked this year and the Redskins aren't going anywhere. Why not give Grossman a chance and see if he's improved? You see this with young QBs all the time, they get benched them come back later (usually on a different team) and look much improved. Like I said, the Redskins are out of the hunt so this move doesn't hurt them at all.

Yeah, I don't think he'll be back either. Wonder where he will go...maybe Carolina, San Francisco, Arizona, Buffalo...hmmmm.

Teammates Livid Over McNabb's Demotion

NFL.com - The move to start Rex Grossman at quarterback against the Cowboys on Sunday over Donovan McNabb has angered the latter's Washington teammates.

"The guys are extremely pissed," one player told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan says that there's no guarantee McNabb will play again this season.

"I also told him," Shanahan said, "that I cannot guarantee him that he will be back next year.

Deion Sanders Adds Fuel To McNabb, Arizona Rumors

Deion Sanders (via Twitter) - The Cardinals are in need of a quarterback and the team has been linked to Donovan McNabb in the past.

Deion Sanders added fuel to the rumors on Friday with a message posted on his Twitter page.

"You heard it from Prime 1st. McNaab to Arizona. Back to the crib and you will be wanted and needed and you inherit 2 good backs and rec," Sanders wrote.

After they gave him all this money? This just doesn't make sense to me..

Thank goodness I am not a Redskin fan through all this junk. I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

That contract was hush money, which is why they put the clause in there that they can release him this off-season and be off the hook for all that money.

I've heard the Cards have never been interested in McNabb. I believe it to, they need a young QB who will be around a while.

Also i'm anxious to see John Beck get out there the last 2 weeks probably.
