What do you think?
Tyson Alualu and Terrance Knighton have been tearing it up. Those of you who haven't watched the games won't agree but they are the best young DT tandem in the league.

They are certainly a great combo. However, I don't watch the Jags, so I can't say they are the BEST.

But for comparison purposes, I looked up Suh's numbers compared to theirs. I then found out their numbers combined is pretty much on the same level of Suh's alone.

I said best young tandem in the league.

Also Suh clearly has more talent around him. Alualu/potroast have Jeremy Mincey and Austen Lane next to them and they're still putting up great numbers.

A promising duo, both seem to compliment each other well. Most impressive for me are the experience and time on the field. A pair of young guys but proving to be reliable and of course, their age allows them greater stamina. I like Alualu but I still don't think he was the guy to take at pick 10. Jacksonville knew what they wanted, they value the d-line more than most positions, and he was their guy. Still should of traded down, he could've been had towards the end of the 1st or even in the 2nd.

I wish the Jags could get more games televised on national tv. I'd love to watch them, but they rarely put their games on.

Gene Smith told Vic Ketchman after the draft that if he didn't take Alualu at 10 then he wouldn't of been able to get him later due to the fact that both Pittsburgh and Miami wanted him. As soon as Jacksonville made the Alualu choice, Miami traded down to select another DT.. Odrick.

Jaguars.com's Vic Ketchman has "solid information" that at least two teams right behind Jacksonville were prepared to draft DT Tyson Alualu.
Critics of Jaguars GM Gene Smith didn't fault him for drafting Alualu as much as they panned him for not maximizing his picks by trading down. If Ketchman's sources are correct -- and we have no reason to believe they're not -- then Smith made the prudent choice in pulling the trigger. We'll see how it plays out on the field. Alualu (calf) isn't practicing at Jags camp.

Okay...I believed what you said. I just remember everyone throwing a fit on draft day, claiming Alualu was taken way too high. I have no problem with teams drafting based off need. Alualu at pick 10 was a ballsy pick but the Jags needed more youth on the D-Line & he's working out for them just fine. The pick could've very well made them look very foolish.

Thats funny though, because Gene Smith didn't draft Alualu off of Need.. he was simply the Best Avalible Player on their board, Gene also stated this. He doesn't draft off of need. It wouldn't of made them look foolish because Gene doesn't pull that trigger if he feels 100% sure that Alualu will pan out, especially since he already had everybody on his back. Gene is one of the best scouts in the league, when he sees something he likes.. he knows whats going to happen with them.

If Alualu was the best player available on their board...then Gene Smith isn't this great talent evaluator you think he is. That's insane to think Alualu was the best player available, after only 9 players had been drafted.

No, He was.

Gene goes by like alot of rubric or wtfe..

He takes players off his board who have had run in with the law/attitude problems. (Which took alot of players off like Dez Bryant and etc)

Gene had a checkmark beside everything on Alualus name, after the evaluating process.. he was the only player on their board with all those

Attitude
Preformance (performed better than Gerald McCoy did in college)
Hes a family man, and a good person you wont find him out at night clubs at 2 in the morning.
Techinque, intangables, everything.. Alualu did good in.

In all honesty is there really that many young tandems in the league.
What I was trying to get at was put Suh next to anyone and that's the best young tandem lol.

Not really, Suh is next to who? Corey Williams? That isn't the best tandem in the league. The best Tandem in the league is the Williams brothers in Minnesota. Then Oakland with Seymour and Kelly. Jags have top 5 though, and the best young one in the league.. both players are under 25.

That's why I said put anyone next to Suh. Suh isn't next to a great DT, yet we are still getting the production from him as if we did have 2 good DT's.

I mean, switch Williams with Hill (who is young), and you could consider that the best tandem, solely based on the fact that Suh is the best young DT in the NFL, by far.

And before I hear the good defensive ends excuse, Vanden Bosch is not even close to his Pro-Bowl level, and Avril wasn't even that good until this season, and it's still not like he's playing at some great Pro-Bowl level. Plus our linebackers are pure shit lol.

I wouldn't say that because Hill isn't really doing anything. I mean Suh is good, but you can't sit here and say him next to KVB and Cliff Avril isn't helping him at all or taking blocks/double teams away from Suh. Both Alualu and Knighton are dominant, Knighton would of had a sack/fumble recovery for TD if it wasn't called back for a William Middleton penalty yesterday.

Aside from the sack total, Knighton alone has been near/just as effective as Suh with nobody but Alualu next to him.

As for Alualu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyGqm2Kzao0 speaks for itself, that was on a good LT in Clady also.

Alualu was a beast at Cal, but I really didn't think he'd be anything at the next level. Looks like he's doing good tho.
