The Reds have reached agreement on a six-year, guaranteed $51M contract with outfielder Jay Bruce, a baseball source told ESPN.com.

The deal includes a club option for a seventh year that could bring the overall value of the contract to $63M, the source said. Bruce has a partial no-trade clause and the opportunity to earn additional money through award bonuses.

I like it. Multi-year, relatively cheap, contract for one of their top players...who still has potential to get better.

Not a good deal for Bruce. Should have stuck it out and if/when he finally breaks he'll get a huge payday.

Anyone could go down with a serious injury at any time, or maybe he slumps the next few years.. Guaranteed Money >

You know what I meant idiot. He's 23 years old and is loaded with potential, not to mention he's been fairly successful thus far in his career. He took huge strides at the plate this year and will probably continue on that upward track. All I'm saying is that it's an incredibly team friendly deal and he could have cashed in a lot more if he waited a couple seasons. It takes him to his 29 year old season so he could still cash in again but it just wasn't a smart move for him IMO

No calling people idiots. Completely unnecessary You seem to like to do that and question people's knowledge of baseball.

Anyways, players under 25 rarely get huge paydays. Look at Pedroia after his 2008 MVP season, he got a contract of 40 million over six years.

I insult your baseball knowledge because it's lacking and call him an idiot because he trolls me. I don't do this to anyone else but Blake but he's retarded.

Dustin Pedroia didn't deserve the MVP that year and is probably one of the worst MVP seasons of all-time. Jay Bruce has the potential to be infinitely better than Dustin Pedroia and as you can see, Dustin Pedroia hasn't done anything but regress since signing that deal.

Seriously dude stop calling people out. I laugh at my knowledge lacking. Lol you said Mariano for 5 years at 75 million. All I have said is Lee had a below average season for his talent and I didn't have confidence in Beltre last year in the field the same way I had with him at the plat.

Yes, and I gave perfect reasoning to back up why he can be successful until he's 45 years old. Whereas you said that Cliff Lee, who allowed 18 walks ALL SEASON. Do you understand how great of a feat that is? Adrian Beltre is and has always been an elite fielder. You said he was below average and said that Kevin Youkillis was a better fielder at 3B. Beltre had an 11.8 UZR this year at 3B. That's phenomenal. Kevin Youkilis has never put up that high of a UZR at 3B, which is 10x easier of a position to field than the hot corner.

^ Using the concept you just applied above...you've proven that you can dispute the knowledge of others w/o resorting to cheap shots and name-calling. Just respect the position this guy is in, omit "idiot" from posting, and play nice. Nobody expects to get along 100% of the time but the site commands a certain level of respect towards each other.

What AE. Everyone can be corrected, and everyone is entitled to an opinion. When you feel that your opinion makes more sense, there is no need to call others out.

Pedroia had a nice batting average and then was ridiculously average in every other facet of the game. Grady Sizemore, A-Rod, and Kevin Youkilis were far more deserving candidates IMO. But the AL was fairly weak in terms of individual players statistics that year. No one was truly dominant and put together a year like Miggy or Josh Hamilton did this year.

Yes he didn't have huge numbers, but being MVP isn't about who can hit the most homeruns. Look at Bautista. He led the league in homers, but did he win the MVP? No. Many people associate the big homerun hitters with automatic MVPs, including many of my friends and myself from time to time.

Pedroia was also very pretty much did it all from drive in runs to play the field. (with the exception of homeruns)

Jose Bautista hit .260 this year. Bad example. I'm not saying huge homerun totals are all that matters, they're a large part, but not the end-all be all. Guys like Youk and A-Rod hit more homers, still had good batting averages, and were better than him in a lot of categories. And if you want to go with the literal way of Most "Valuable" Player, Grady Sizemore and A-Rod are still better candidates. Sizemore had a 7.1 WAR compared to Pedroia's 6.6 and A-Rod had a 6.0 WAR but played in 20 less games than Pedey.

He's 23 years old and one injury can cripple his career forever... He took 53 million dollars, and when the contract expires he'll be 29 and if he's not hurt, he'll be ready to sign a 100+ million dollar deal with the Yankees. He's 23, and has played 3 seasons, he got a lot of guaranteed money offered, he's in a comfortable situation, this is an easy decision to make, you take the money.
