The Mets and Red Sox got together on Tuesday night to discuss outfielder Carlos Beltran, according to a report in The Boston Globe.

The Red Sox need a CF'er and they are one of the few teams that can afford Beltran's contract. We would obviously be looking for some nice pitching prospects though.

We'd be looking for a decent prospect, doesn't necessarily have to be a pitching prospect, but we wouldn't get a lot in return unless we eat up the majority of his salary this season.

And from what I've read the Sox look at him as a fall-back option if they fail to sign or trade for other Outfielders such as Crawford, Josh Willingham, etc.

Well I would go for a pitching prospect based upon the fact that we have little to no depth in that area in the majors and in the minors. We need to play to our strengths.

The option of signing C.C. ended the moment we signed A-Gon. The Nats are asking too much for Willingham apparently. So Beltran is our fall-back option, but only if we can't sign Maggs at a reasonable price..

Personally I'd rather they go after Maggs than Beltre..but I wouldn't be too upset if they didn't have to give away a good prospect for him

I don't see why you'd want Maggs over Beltran. Beltran's potential to return back to his old self is enough to take him over Maggs.

I'm talking about in terms of price...if it's an okay prospect, fine. But if it's a good prospect (that I like), I'd rather they just sign Maggs for cheap.

Well now that they have Crawford, I doubt they trade for Beltran unless they for some odd reason want to trade Ellsbury back to the Mets...

Meaning, a trade won't happen now. But if it did happen, they wouldnt give up much because of Beltran's salary this season.

I would much rather just have our outfield as Crawford, Drew and Ellsbury. <Censored> load of speed there

Anybody that would rather have Beltran in their outfield deserves to be punched repeatedly in the face.

Well, I'd rather like to have '08 Beltran in my lineup, as would most teams. '10 Beltran... hmmm, not so much.
