The Nationals will offer Lee a seven-year deal, tweets Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. The contract length is very important to Lee, tweets SI's Jon Heyman.
Damn Nats trying to make two big splashes? lol?

Mariners also thought Cliff Lee and Felix would be sick, Cliff Lee ended up on another team by the All-Star break.

Thats also the American league. Remember how dominant Sabathia was with the Brewers for that short time? We honestly have no idea how different he would perform in the National League.

Freakin insane that the Nats are trying to make a statement, haha.

But apparently hes already been offered a 7year contract and NOT by the Nats and most likely not by the Yankees:

Apparently its 7 years, in the range of 20 to 25 per year.

I'm also curious how much a Lee contract could affect a Crawford contract. I gotta believe that if Lee gets at least $160M in total, Crawford has a good chance at landing close to $200M. Ridiculous...

Teams are throwing around too much money this offseason IMO. This will only hurt for future years.

The Blue Jays are strongly pursuing free-agent Carlos Pena, a source told Gordon Edes of ESPN.com.

Pena hit just .196 with 28 home runs and 84 RBI in 144 games this past season.

Other then his average, this would be a huge upgrade over Overbay.

The Nationals have inquired with the Royals about right-hander Zack Greinke, according to a report by CBS Sports.

While it's unlikely that Washington will land Greinke, it's the latest in a long line of signs that the Nationals are serious about turning themselves around.

Well that was only a half a year.

Depends on how he pitches through an entire year in the national league....

and yeah I forgot, haha.

well they have the ability to and are trying to up their payroll from $60M to around $100M.

Greinke is basically their backup attempt because they don't want to offer Lee 7 years over $20M per year. Yesterday they appeared ready to make a huge offer but now you got 2 teams today that have offered Lee over 20 per year at 7 years, and I think the Nats want to have a little wiggle room moving forward.

The Nationals think they are the new big boys in town, but lets get real here. That ballpark is never full and that fanbase is very casual when it comes to baseball. The National League is also very competitive with the Phillies being perennial World Series contenders, the Braves great pitching and playoff status last year, and the Marlins managing to field a very competitive team every year. The Nationals just have too much competition and their scouting isnt very good to be honest.

In baseball you cant just accidently bump into great talent, you also have to be able to develop that talent. And with the Nationals I just dont see it. Great scouting also finds those gems in the later rounds. For example: Mike Piazza. Pujols was drafted in the like 13th round or something.

I actually hope they sign Lee.. Please stay away from New York, Cliff.. Or just stay in Texas, either way.

so after the season i said "at least the Dodgers dont play teh Giants in their home opener in SF"

we open the season in L.A. vs the Giants on April 1

but ESPN and MLB are tormenting me!!!!!!!
they either want to, or are going to move an April 11 LAD/SF game in SF to March 31st so the GIants can open the season on ESPN and get their rings in SF
then the next day would be as scheduled. so essentially a 4 game series with the first in SF and the other 3 in L.A.

One team has been eliminated from the race to sign left-hander Cliff Lee, according to agent Darek Braunecker.

Braunecker wouldn't disclose which team was eliminated from the race, but it's not the Rangers, who met with the agent on Wednesday.

"We've eliminated a club and have zeroed in on a few things," Braunecker said.

In addition to the Rangers, the Yankees, Red Sox, Angels and Nationals have been linked to Lee.
