SAN FRANCISCO -- The World Series champion San Francisco Giants have found their new shortstop, agreeing to terms with free agent Miguel Tejada on a US$6.5 million, one-year contract Tuesday.

The deal is pending a physical. The Giants didn't expect to make a formal announcement until later this week at the earliest, depending on how soon Tejada could get to town for his physical.

Tejada told The Associated Press in the Dominican Republic that he had agreed to the deal worth $6.5 million.

"I'm very happy and satisfied to reach an agreement with the San Francisco Giants," Tejada told the AP in Spanish. "I take pride in having the opportunity to compete for that team."
I know it's only for a year but that's a lot.

They have money to spend, always have, and I'm glad they're using it

Pretty nice pickup

Awful pickup, the guy has no where near the range that he once used to have. Had his lowest batting average last year since 2003 and had the lowest OPS since 1998! I mean seriously, he is going to another pitchers park in San Fran and hes around 40 years old. He is a liability on defense with a .947 fielding percentage. The Giants think they can continue to pick up these old veterans and catch lightning in a bottle, well not this time.

I'm surprised he's still getting opportunities from teams. I remember a couple years ago(Maybe 07) when people thought his career was done with.

I'm assuming Renteria is retiring then? Haven't heard any news on that? Unless they just don't want to pay him.
