Hard to watch people like Lee and V-Mart sign with other team, shows us what we could have had.

Lee
Sabathia
Martinez

With a lot of good pieces fit around them.

Dombrowski said he is on the hunt for a corner outfielder and a reliever.

But in sad news, he says they view Raburn as an everyday player next year. Might as well call the season over already...

Interesting

The Yankees have a Plan B at shortstop should they not come to terms with free-agent Derek Jeter on a new contract.

The 23-year-old Eduardo Nunez is their fallback option, writes ESPN.com's Buster Olney.

If Jeter was to shock the baseball world by signing with another team, New York is comfortable with Nunez's above-average defense and they would use the saved money to augment their starting rotation.

Is he still as fast as he was with the Cubs? Hawks is a fantastic young talent...

Free-agent third baseman Adrian Beltre has declined arbitration with the Red Sox.

The decision assures Boston of compensatory draft picks should Beltre sign with another team.

The Rangers are inching towards a five-year contract offer to free-agent Cliff Lee, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

"They want to know soon on Lee," the source said of Texas, who have prepared backup plans if the left-hander leaves.

The Yankees are believed to have offered Lee a deal for five or six years and worth as much as $23 million annually.

The Orioles have extended a significant offer to free-agent first baseman Paul Konerko, according to Jim Bowden of The MLB Network.

"Baltimore Orioles have been aggressive with free agents and despite losing out on Victor Martinez have made significant offer to Paul Konerko," Bowden wrote on his Twitter page.

Konerko, who had a huge year for the White Sox in 2010, is believed to be open to returning to Chicago.

The Rangers met with free-agent pitcher Cliff Lee earlier this week, general manager Jon Daniels confirmed on Wednesday.

Daniels would not confirm whether Texas extended an offer to Lee, but club president Nolan Ryan also attended the meeting in Lee's native Arkansas.

"It's a process with only one point that's really worthy of talking about, and that's when there's a decision made," Daniels said. "No sense in trying to dissect and analyze everything else, but I realize that's what goes on this time of year."

Dodgers non-tendered Russell martin
I hope we can re-sign him. Im not expecting him to go back to being a great player, but even as bad as he's been the past 2 years, there really isnt any other catcher i'd rather have than him that would be possible

only a handful of truly above average catchers
buster, mccann, mauer, vmart, weiters, santana, a few more maybe

he used to play 3B in the minors, but honestly, the way the past 2 years have gone do you really want him as your 1B/3B?

barely has the bat for catcher.

and i just read the Yanks and Dodgers came close on Cervelli for Russell

Well he's only 27 and Rogers Centre seems like the perfect park to get back to the good offensive years he had.

Despite Martin's struggles, I would love him here in Toronto

Anyways, kinda interesting.

The Red Sox offered Mariano Rivera a two-year, $30 million deal to replace Jonathan Papelbon as their closer, according to a baseball source.

Boston was prepared to non-tender Papelbon if Rivera accepted the deal.

Rivera turned down the Red Sox to return to the Yankees, who offered the same money as Boston.

The Red Sox on Thursday night tendered a contract to Papelbon, who was paid $9.35 million last season and is arbitration-eligible.

The Reds and right-hander pitcher Bronson Arroyo have agreed to terms on a two-year contract agreement, according to reports.

Arroyo's new contract will run through the 2013 season.

Including the $11.5 million option the club exercised last month, the total value of Arroyo's deal is $35 million over three years.
