The Washington Redskins and quarterback Donovan McNabb have agreed to a five-year, $78 million extension that could be worth up to $88 million with incentives, a source with knowledge of the agreement told ESPN NFL Insider Michael Smith.

The source said $40 million of the deal will be guaranteed.

McNabb, who will turn 34 later this month, agreed to an extension just weeks after he was benched at the end of a loss to the Lions because coach Mike Shanahan said the quarterback didn't have a grasp of the teams' 2 minute offense.

McNabb, who was traded by the Eagles to the Redskins before the season, faces Philadelphia on Monday night for the second time this season. He led Washington to a 17-12 victory at Philadelphia on Oct. 3.

I don't know what this league has come to anymore.

There is a reason why the <Censored>ty teams, will remain <Censored>ty, exactly like the Redskins.

Great, another forum with uninformed people spewing their useless garbage comments.

Let's go ahead and bash the contract before we know anything about it.

I heard if they trade him during the season, they won't have to pay him the bonus. Or something like that.

You just didn't let him run the 2min offense.. Now you throw this much money at him?

I'm sorry. I don't really need to know all of the details to still call this a stretch.

They didn't "just" throw this much money at him. This exact same offer has been on the table since training camp.

I highly doubt he'll be here more than 3 years. He won't see close to the full contract.

It was a year to year deal. The redskins would owe McNabb a large signing bonus before every season and guaranteeing that season's salary.

The redskins will only owe McNabb 3.5 million if they trade/cut him. Hopefully the redskins get some sort of pick in return for him.
