TRAIL BLAZERS CENTER GREG ODEN TO UNDERGO MICROFRACTURE SURGERY FRIDAY

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden will undergo microfracture surgery on his left knee Friday and will miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season, the Trail Blazers announced this evening.

Dr. Richard Steadman will perform the surgery with assistance from Trail Blazers orthopedic surgeon Dr. Don Roberts at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo.

Oden, 22, has been sidelined since fracturing his left patella in a Dec. 5, 2009, game vs. Houston. A recent MRI showed damaged cartilage to the surface of his femur, and his current injury is unrelated to the fractured left patella.

Oden previously underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee Sept. 13, 2007.

He holds career NBA averages of 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 1.43 blocked shots in 82 games over parts of two seasons from 2008-09.
Dang horrible luck.

For real. Man I really hope after this season, he can get healthy. He had a bright future ahead of him, and possibly still does.

Sucks.. Honestly, don't see a point in him trying to continue his career, should probably call it quits to avoid crippling himself for life, but I could understand his competitive nature to want to get back into playing and prove people wrong.

Oden had it on his right knee...now he is having it on his left knee. I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I still think he can come back just fine. Loads of players have done it, plus the technology on the surgery is getting better all the time. Making for a cleaner cut ;)

sure he can come back, we arent saying that. we're just saying he wont be anything too special. he is young though, so who knows.

Oh I meant he still can be something special. I mean look at Amare Stoudemire. He's special, and thats after a knee and eye surgery.

I dont know if he would've been great. He would've been a hell of a defensive player. It's sad to see...but idk dude at least has made enough money.

He would have been really good, maybe great. He killed Noah in that national title game in 2007, who is now one of the better rising young big men in the league. Really small sample size but he had athleticism not many 7 footers have (basically just Dwight Howard), but he also had skill and good footwork.

Yeah Im gonna have to go back and look at some of his hs games I got. I dont really remember his offensive game.No dissing his game. I just always knew he was a hell of a defensive player and was athletic.

This saddens me because I was really looking forward to some Howard-Oden and Oden-Bynum battles for the future. We need another Big American Post big.

*TYO prays Andre Drummond stays healthy*

x2. Damn cheato Ive been agreeing with everying youve been saying this past week.

I mean seriously, just give it up, he needs to move on and do something else. He is now an official bust which is sad because the injuries arent directly his fault, but theres a time when you need to come to the self-realization that you just arent meant to do certain things.
